Today my Dobb's came in. It's a Dobb's fifteen. Decent hat with a nice grey color called 'zement'. The felt is pretty stiff, but not hard. Anyone with more information about date etc..? And has anyone seen that white stitchin in de hatband before? Is it original or not? I am going to venture a guess that the hat is post 1990 after the reunification of Germany. It has a plastic liner tip combined with a black sweathband says post 1950ish to me and it says made in Germany, between the end of WWII and 1990 I would think it would have either said made in East or West Germany. The white stitching also appears to have been added.

The label has an HCA (Hat Corporation of America). HCA sold Dobbs to Koracorp between 1970 and 1972. I don’t think a post HCA hat would have HCA on the label. The price is also indicative of something not so recent.

The dating guides we use don’t always work when used on hats made under license by other companies. My guess is 1960s, but it’s just a guess.

That stitching on the ribbon and bow looks like a recent addition.

I would have guessed 60s or even 70s too - from the entire interior.

The absence of "West"(Germany) is not a problem,
because the Federal Republic was the "recognised" Germany
- so usually no addition was needed here.
However, the designation "Made in Germany" was in use in both states!
Alternatives were (more rarely) "Made in W. Germany" in the BRD
and the also known "Made in GDR" in the DDR.

Picked up this nice Dobbs Astor in Frost Gray the other day. It’s in really great condition and fits me well. It was marked as ‘50s by the store but my research on the Lounge makes me think maybe more like ‘60s. I think I was drawn to it because it is similar to the one I got from my Grandpa that is a little too small for me now. Anyway it reminds me of him.
