One thing I love about vintage items is the care and pride that went into items.
Submitted for your approval, a Royal Stetson Whippet.

Look at the tags! Size, price, and get a load of that inspection ticket! Reading it brings a smile to my face.

I would like to thank Mr. Leroy Farley for the fine part he played in bringing us this wonderful hat.
You rarely see that kind of customer consideration today.

That really is a beautiful hat. Really like the original tags. Nice purchase.
Tags like that really make a hat special.

How are you going to style it?
It's a great looking hat.
I am having a problem styling this hat. It appears to have sat in storage for so long on it's crown that the top and side of the crown does not hold a bash. I have tried the no water, and a slight steam method but without luck. Any suggestions? Should I speak with Art? I have seen the miracles he works and know he could put some life into the crown.

Wow! I am surprised. I thought you could karate-chop a center bash, put in some dents and you're all set. Perhaps, it needs a little stiffener?

I'm sure Art could do whatever you want with it.

Good luck! It is an amazing hat. ;)

Beautiful. Its amazing that those tags are still in there. It looks like it was made just yesterday! Send it to Art, and make sure he doesn't touch the sweat, liner or tags. -Mulceber

Ps. Where on earth did you find that beauty?!

I agree with you totally on the details put into older items. That is a great lid. That inspection tag is a far cry from those "inspected by 47" tags that came with items and sadly, you don't see that too often anymore either.

I think you need to get that phrase back to its original rendition by Flaubert: "God is in the details."
I see no devil involved here. :D that hat is truly a good example of what they looked like when you got them new. All those tags were there. Over time, a majority were lost due to wear and cleaning.

Regards,

J

I think that is exactly what it needs.
Is this possible to do on my own? What do the hatters use to stiffen hats? I remember reading about a felt stiffner and a shellac based one. Are they one and the same?
Can I produce a shellac concoction of my own to spray on the hat?
hmmm...:eusa_doh:
