This is no duplication, I keep telling myself!
If I have a look in my wardrobe, I see a lot of different N-1 jackets, each has it's place. But when my wife has a look into my wardrobe, she sees a lot of same jackets lol.
The Mil-Tec is what it is, I rock it without caring about stains, rips and tears like the old seamen would. It's looking good and even better with time. A Real Mc Coys or Freewheelers on the other hand is a jacket I would nanny and baby and maybe rarely wear but adore looking at as a possesion of it's own.
Lateley some brands seem to have jumped on the train and believe they can put moon prices on things like that. When a RMC is really worth it, some ar not.

For example, take a look at this one:

It's what it is, a simple cut, simple components like waxed canvas (55% cotton, 45% Polyacryl, they even call this Gunmaku!), polyester teddy fleece lining, YKK standard zipper. simple riveted buttons. Construction and production wise it's not better than any mall jacket.
And they ask over 700 Dollar for it. For this money you can get proper dense jungle cloth woven on the old machines, sewn on period correct military spec buttons, M43 Talon Zipper or Waldes Zipper and fantastic Alpaca fur lining and reach the spheres of RMC, Buzz Rickson and so on.

In this respect, Silvermans and Mil-Tec are honest jackets. They don't try to sell glass for the price of diamonds or brass for the price of gold. The Pike Brothers is honest, too. Pike Brothers use high end materials, fantastic workmanship and are priced fair. If they only would tweak their cut and refine their color.

Just received my HPA heavyweight BR N1 Navy and have finally found my dream fit N1! Alpaca makes all the difference in the N1 world! Bronsons are great for the price, but the BR HPA is so worth it! Its actually lighter weight than my Bronson N1 blue, but so much warmer. Short sleeve length is always a problem for me, but the HPA BR length is perfectly long, hitting half way down my hand at attention as it's supposed to. Tighter on the armpit as it's supposed to, so lenghth is maintained when extending arms for all movements. Roomy chest, 6-7 inches over actual chest size but looks trim! I waited too long to pull the trigger on this! Size 40 proved the perfect fit....thank you Charles. I'm 5'9", 154lbs., 40," chest, 33" waist, long arms. No US NAVY stencil across the back and just fine with this former active duty USMC 0311/0321! December coming and time to rewatch Greyhound again for the umpteenth time!

Funny video :)
"I want to sit right here BUT I CAN'T", very funny.
But he 's got some things wrong when it comes to how "Jungle Cloth" is woven, it's just not like it's shown here and how pile is made is even more speculative.
Of course he echoes what is written all the time about possible explanations for the "evolution" from Zip to Hook to Zip plus Wind Panel with buttons, but the explanation, that brass corodes in the salty spray on a ship is just not too convincing. It's a copper alloy and very corrosion resistant. Near frozen fingers that could not manipulate a stuck zipper was one of the better explanations I have read somewhere. But how you manage buttoning up your jacket with said fingers is beyond my imagination, too. So, we shall have to take everything with a grain of salt, of course.

I have a quick question about N1 deck jackets...I used to own a Canadian Military parka with wool filled lining. It was incredibly warm and I usually wore it open through winter, but whenever it was so cold I needed to close it, the cold would go through the zipper and zipper flap. There was a button flap over the zipper like on the deck jacket, but the wool filling stopped a few inches on either side of the zipper like the deck jacket. It was really annoying that a coat so warm just let the cold air right through the center line, as opposed to most sheepskin or wool coats where you are overlapping sheepskin pile/wool to button it, making it even warmer in the center. The material on the deck jacket may be thicker, have you noticed cold air coming in through the material in the center and the zipper or does it keep it out pretty well?

NAF 1168 jacket has alpaca wool lining all the way to the edge of the wind flap to cover that middle gap. The N1 lining stops at the inside facing before the zipper so there is that small strip of cold zone.

I remember @MrProper was complaining about exact same thing, but I am not sure if this was in reference to N-1.
