at the moment I'm undecided between these 3 jackets
Buzz ricksons demotex Brown 630€ size 42
Real mccoy navy 620€ size 40
Buzz ricksons A-2 olive 400€ size L

the RMC jacket if I understand correctly has a slimmer fit, while I did not understand the difference of the buzz ricksons n1 demotex vs normal jacket

The A-2 has four benefits. First: it looks more modern. Second: It is more versatile imo. Third: breast pocket. Fourth: the price tag. Quality wise all three are very well made jackets. What let you hesitate to try a Pike Brothers first before spending the double amount of money?

If I am not mistaken BR Demotex has more comfortable lining and thicker shell than the normal one. The two versions fit differently. I remember the Demotex one has longer sleeves for one.

the desire to have a well-made reproduction

I share this desire when it comes to Deck Jackets.
All of the mentioned brands (Pike Brothers included!) are very well made reproductions.

All of them have very minor detail variations which are differing from period originals. The quality of the Pike Brothers is superb. I agree, the Buzz Ricksons is closer to the period jackets (perhaps the closest). Some Real McCoy batches are not as close imo, though outstanding in terms of craftsmanship.

You will have to take a look at ALL of those to make sure, YOU are looking well dressed in it. As sending back and refund is more complicated with japanese options I would not hesitate to start my route with a Pike Brothers. I was the one who said, you would likely feel sligthly swamped in their take on the Deck Jacket and find the arms too wide (the latter being something which any seemstress can alter for no money). But again, sending it back is hassle free.

I know, I was never satisfied after having my Pike Brothers version without having tried the other options. Then I had the chance to try a Buzz Ricksons and a Real MCoys. I kept my Pike Brothers as the advantages of the others were minor while the price went up to a point I could not agree with. But I did not look the way I wanted in any of them. I finally sold my Pike Brothers after the Bronson one came in. I settled on this. I just feel great in this jacket and the fit is just about right on me. The differences to period jackets are only noticable for true history fanatics and re-enactors. And the quality is surprisingly good. So in my case I am at the end of my journey with the cheapest of all options. Great for my wallet.

The road to the perfect N-1 Deck Jacket is a rocky one.

This is the Buzz Ricksons Demotexed version. The sleeves are too long imo, and the knit cuffs are stitched through the sleeves outer shell. The guy looks swamped in this jacket.
So again, it depends on your body measurements and proportions which of these options fit and look best on you. Does it make sense to have a how ever well made reproduction but don't feel right when wearing it?

For comparison, here is the thread with my review of Bronson's N-1 Demotexed including fit and detail pics:

I think the fit and cut is great and the quality is much higher than what could have been expected considering what it had cost me.

What ever you do, I am very curious how your journey will go on! Let us take part and don't forget to show us your fit pics!

The difference is more than the stitch through with regards to the knit cuffs. The alpaca lining goes all the way to the tip of the outer cuff on the Navy colored version. The lining on the khaki version stops at the inner knit. That is a design modification/improvement on the original and I guess that is nitpicking for some.

In addition to Blackadder, I may say, that the Khaki version of Pike Brother's N-1 also has the lining down to the cuffs. And because their lining is on the thicker side, this adds to the bulkiness of the sleeves in the Pike's version.

My personal ranking would be:
A - Craft and material quality
  1. Real McCoys
  2. Iron Heart
  3. Buzz Ricksons
  4. Pike Brothers (all first four quite close, then comes a bit of a gap)
  5. Bronson
B - Fashion/Style/fit (very subjective!)
  1. Bronson
  2. Iron Heart
  3. Real McCoys (all first three very close, then comes a gap)
  4. Buzz Ricksons
  5. Pike Brothers
C - Historical accuracy:

  1. Buzz Ricksons
  2. Real McCoys (first two very close, then comes a gap)
  3. Pike Brothers
  4. Bronson (maybe Bronson ranks 3 and Pike's ranks 4, I can't decide)
  5. Iron Heart
A: The distances between rank 1 - 4 are very faint. There is quite a gap betwen rank 4 and five.
B: The distance between rank 1 - 3 is very small. Again, there is a slightly bigger distance from 3 to 4, and a bigger from 4 to 5.
C: Here I see a slight gap between Nr. 1 and number 2, and bigger gaps to and between the following numbers.

At least this is how I see them... I have only seen and handled one period WWII N-1. So take it with a grain of salt when it comes to historical authenticity...

i think i will get the real mccoy jacket, i think size 42 is the correct one or not?

When you say your chest is 40", then a size 42 (khaki) may be a bit on the large side... But don't listen to me!! Ask the store you want to order from, send your measurements to be on the safe side. I bet they recommend a size 40. Ask them and then please come back here with their answer, I am curious what they say as you have nearly the same dimensions that I have..
Take into account that in Italy you will rarely have the need to layering in this jacket.

Great stuff guys......CatsCan has done his homework......the N1 truly is a minefield!

I had the BR Demotex briefly......sleeves were huge! The IH does not have lined sleeves and I think it works.....makes the jacket more comfortable to wear.

awesome! pics and comments when it arrives please

+1. Have admired the RMC for some time now and am eager to get some first hand intel.

I have an Iron Heart (also navy), and while it is a really great jacket, I am exactly between their sizes "L" and "XL", so its pretty roomy on me.
