Almost done with my Chestnut Stagecoach resizing. Sweatband is sewn in and the hat is creased. Tomorrow I'll flange the brim and sew on a ribbon. This one will have the same proportions as the Silverbelly Stagecoach I just finished. It will have a generous 6 inch open crown with a 2 3/4 wide snap brim.

Sweat is temporarily tack stitched to hold the sweat in place for sewing. These stitches will be removed after the sweat is sewn in.

The sweat band is goat skin that I used to get from JW Hats. The Sullivan Hat Company bought the sweat band business from JW before he passed away. I now buy those sweats from that company. The prices for the sweats are very reasonable and there's no limit on how many you can buy...I can tell you that they're very nice sweats, soft and comfortable, and I put them in all of my conversions.

Nice work there guys!
Every bodies hat work looks great!

Third time a charm? I hope so cause this is the third incarnation of this old Stetson 3x now. I decided to go with a wider crown ribbon after I dig up a compatible brim binding in a similar color.
The crown ribbon is a washed sage /grey 1 1/2 wide and the binding is about 1” in a light celery grey. I accented the binding stitch with a darker grey/green thread so it adds a bit of contrast on the brim and to the crown ribbon color.
Color of the felt is a light grey silver belly .

Following bond's line of thought, "Third time a charm?" I nearly had this hat put back together. Sweat band sewn in, nice and comfortable. Crown creased and looking good. But for some reason it wouldn't flange the way I wanted. I reflanged it about four times but it seems to have a memory, looking the same every time. Besides, these hats have a lot of stiffener, which I'm not a big fan of, that may have contributed to the brim's memory. Anyway, I took it apart again and I'm going to turn the hat around where the back of the hat will now be the front. The different flanging vs the front and back should overcome the brim's memory. These Western weight felts and the tons of stiffener that was used on them can make these hats stubborn to work on, but I'll get it done.

Getting ready for the third attempt. This isn't my ribbon and bow work. I saved this from a modern Stetson I have and may reuse it on this Chestnut Stagecoach conversion. Still giving it some thought. I don't have any ribbon supply left so I have to recycle.... Also, nothing like the smell of new and soft goat skin leather sweat bands. Got these from the Sullivan Hat Company. Very reasonable prices and no limit to order... ordered them Friday, got 'em today.

Geez that looks like vintage factory to me...you are just so detailed. Is that a keeper for you or are you going to toss it on the other type of "Block"...the for sale one...!

Finished my Stagecoach conversion in Chestnut. I went with a matching thin ribbon. The straight open crown is 6 inches tall and is creased in my preferred Teardrop. It's creased to 4 3/4 at the pinch with a rake sloping to 4 inches in the back. The snap brim is 2 3/4 wide. The crown has a nice deep "dished" crease.

Hey Terry. If you mentioned it I didn't see it, did you use your 51 Block on this hat? No taper or very little...........I really like that straight crown.
