I'm very impressed with the finished product and I'll keep checking the classifieds.

Have you ever tried dyeing hats? I'm about to give it a try tomorrow. I'm not sure what Revlon hair color translates to pecan or taupe fawn, but I'm going to give it a try.

Yep. That just about sums it up DD.

I'm thinking I might make this into an Indy hat (or try to). The felt is too thick for anything like a true Indy, but i'll give it a try sans the Indy "Turn" which I don't care for.
Looking forward to seeing it. How is your tool acquisition coming? I have been looking for a flange 7 1/2 - 2 3/4, so I know it takes time and money to find.

I've ordered a foot tolliker, rounding Jack, and other tools from Humanshoes here at the Lounge. I've ordered a block, flange, flange stand, band block, etc. from Hatters Supply House in Loveland, Colorado. Getting a used #52 block in my size would be unlikely and could well cost more than the $166 the new block set me back. I also sent with the 2 3/4" brim flange. I'm not expecting it to all arrive for another 60-90 days. Until then, the Hat Shapers straight sided dome plastic block fits me very well (I ordered it as a 6" but that Bee will swallow an 8").

It's costing me more than I was initially expecting, but most of it is one-time expenses. I'm also happy that my wife is getting into the ribbon work and
I'm trying to convince her to have a go at sewing in sweats. As the kids are leaving home I'm looking for hobbies that I can do with my wife to fill the void and to do things together. I'm not expecting a return on my "investment" but I'm sure going to have some fun. I'm having a go at dyeing a hat using hair coloring this weekend :)

DD, I'm not very "handy" and I've never done anything like this. My expectations are low and I'm sure my work will make some folks here cringe. I'll post photos because I'm not embarrassed to show how low skilled I truly am. :)

My blocked hats waiting the arrival of more tools and parts (sweats, ribbons, etc.) needed for completion.

The lack of diversity in color has led to to an old post here by J.T.Marcus on dyeing hats using hair coloring.

Have any of you given this a try?

Trust me, you don't really need to be very handy, just a bit mad. It seems to me that, most times, the hat will tell you what it wants to be.
