The Conversion Corral

My first attempt to convert a Resistol Stagecoach. I trimmed the brim to 2.5" (wish I would have gone 2.75). The crown is 6" open and 5.5" at the dent.
I had only polyester ribbon (1.5") at the time so I may replace it with cotton in the future. It sure isn't perfect but it was a fun project. Might try another one soon. View attachment 97563 View attachment 97564

Great job on that one Cornshucker! I agree with Dog, there is a high potential for addiction.

Melton 10 with requested pleated ribbon. Swapped out plain black ribbon that lounger didn't want for this vintage grey silver ribbon. Color of felt is a lovely light grey and the new ribbon picks up the stitching on top side of brim binding.

Yea I liked the black ribbon also. The problem is I already have several vintage gray fedoras with black ribbons. So I wanted something different. I think it turned out awesome. Scott always does outstanding work.

While I'm waiting on blocks, flanges, etc., I'm collecting hats for conversions. This one arrived today:

Resistol Stagecoach 7 5/8 long oval in "sunset."

Well it looks like I have another Lounger to compete against for hats to convert. Good to see you here and that is a great hat to convert. Good luck.

What's that adage about wearing the hat and not letting the hat wear you? This Bee Hat has the largest crown of any of the hats I've acquired for conversion. I'm a bit intimidated, but I bought it with the expectation that I'd screw up some as I learn.

Still waiting on more tools of the trade to be delivered, but I'll give a go at blocking this beast in the meantime.

I recently picked up this 50s Stetson 100. The sweatband seam was in bad shape and needed to be re-stitched. Tonight I re-stitched the sweatband seam using the original holes. It took just over an hour. Not too bad for a first attempt at such a thing.

I don't wear cowboy hats. So I will get the ribbon replaced and reshape as a fedora.
