So this is a really cool cap imho... I´ve looked at all my sewing stuff, fabrics and supplies and suddenly this cap was already done in my mind.

This one´s got the full package:

Brown Harris Tweed lined with very soft and thin cotton flanell (please take a look at all the matching lines of the plaid).
You need about 25% more lining fabric this way... but the result speaks for itsself.
Snap closure, adjustable buckled back.
I gave those rivets about two or three hammer strokes more than needed...normally I´m not a big fan of distressing/ aging new stuff but I thought in this context it will look good.
It´s a size 60 but it´s very suitable for a size 59 too because of the adjustment that can be made. I´m a size 59 and it fits me good.
Anyone interested to have it?? If not I´ll gladly wear it myself :D

Great stuff, Bela. Your caps are coming along nicely. Can't wait for summer to get my linen edition... ;)

I have a question or two.

Looking ahead to my head in warmer weather, and liking caps more and more.
I have one linen 8/4 and like it. Payne Stewart (RIP) via Peterman in gold.
But it's a bit on the floppy/wrinkly side. Much prefer how my tweed ones hold their shape.

Also, the P.S. has the (don't know proper term) visor construction where the stiffening part is separated from the sweatband by a gap, something I've seen on Christy's and other modern tweed caps but don't really care for, personally.

Also have taken a liking to City Sport lately. They have linen and also silk offerings.

So my question(s) are, for those who have something akin to these:

- Do any of the linen makes hold shape better? For example, because they are made of a thicker linen fabric, like one I had way way back in the 1970s.

- How are the silken jobbies? Does a little bit of precipitation or sweat hurt them, do they hold their shape, all that.

Thanks for any advice.

I have a linen Retro-Sport from the ebay seller Mamieblue
no wrinkles & no floppyness at all, stands at attention nice sharp cut.
I am surprised this is a great linen cap compared to other linens i have had.
I have other Linen caps i gave away due to excessive wrinkles & flop & weird shaping.
Try it & post your feedback since warm weather is coming soon.

Just want to give a shout-out to a great online retailer from Sweden - www.hepcat.se. I came across a Wigens Wool Gatsby with a cotton lining on the net, and being excited at finding one with a cotton lining (better thermal range for Australian winters, where the days can change from freezing to warmish), I had to order it. I got distracted by a phone call in the middle of the purchase and accidently ordered size 58 instead of 60, only noticing after I had sent the payment. Contacted them immediately, and got a response virtually straight away, and it is like 7:30am in the morning over there. They said they would change it to size 60 for me. Nice people, the Swedes. Cap cost me $64 and $11 postage - I think they have a flat rate for orders outside of Europe, and have a range of Wigens Newsboy styles you don't see on other retail sites. This is the one I ordered - pale colour but good looking cap - http://www.hepcat.se/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=35&products_id=9106

Thank you for all those nice comments guys... I really do appreciate it!

I´ve had some messages with questions to my caps and will answer them here:

I take custom orders according to fabric type, lining type, finishing and such.

I can make my caps with a full leather sweatband. I have no special machine for that so I do it by hand and that needs some time and had to be paid.

I don´t know exactly when I will come out with my linen caps. I´ll have to make some caps for testing and see how the fabric work for my caps.

I have some vintage fabrics I´ve bought from the same retired taylor I´ve got this fabric from:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/76737859/classic-mens-newsboy-cap-made-from
They are also from the 1950s and I will post some pictures later this day.

Absolutely superb looking hats. I think I'm gonna have to order one soon.

I can only say about Bela's caps that I already have one (well, actually two) and that I'm so satisfied with the quality and the fit that I'm going to order another one for the summer made from linen (from a local linen mill, no less). That tweed cap has seen quite a lot of head time lately.

The first and last ones are my favorite's. Would you consider these summer or winter weight fabric's?

I definitely would consider the last one for winter/ colder weather. It´s a medium weight pure wool with panama binding.
The other fabrics are not really lightweigt... they are more medium weights... so I wouldn´t wear them in 30°C.

I´ve rearranged my shop on Etsy: You can now find all the Harris Tweed I have in stock and those vintage fabrics.

Because of my move to another city I´ve started to pack my stuff together... so no more newsboy making for this week.
Of course I take orders, have internet access and can answer to any questions here or on Etsy.
As I´ve mentioned before I have to expand the timeframe from making to shipping... you can read about it in my shop policies on Etsy... so who comes first will be served first ;)

To Mario, Manfred and Frank: Yours are shipped and should be there soon.

I had this theory that plaid caps and shirts never work together. You have to either have a plaid cap and a plain shirt or a plaid shirt with a plain cap. I picked up this Pendleton Black Watch Tartan, Washable Wool Shirt that I bought on ebay from the post office today and while trying it on when I got home, tried a few of my caps to see what would work with it. I was shocked to find that the Shirt Weight Plaid Hat People Cap, which I don't wear much because it doesn't go with anything, actually didn't look too bad with it. So much for my theory; I will never get the hang of this fashion thing! Oh well, I thinking I am making progress for a bogan - at least it is not a cheap cotton/polyester flano and a beanie - it's kind of the high end bogan now, still plaid but in wool :p

More folk than Fedora Lounge, and maybe the cap is a bit dark for this shirt, but the Wigens doesn't work too bad with this look. At the moment, I regard this Wigens as the best cap I've bought. I know it's a major manufacturer and not a vintage or bespoke cap, but the cap is well made, fits over my skull perfectly, and it's got a look that is a little bit rakish but not outrageous - sometimes you want to look good without standing out too much and that is the sort of cap this is, I reckon. I like it anyway.
