+1. I emailed for information hoping to find one of the bolder flecked fabrics, but in my size the caps were all solids and subtle tweeds. A very nice flat cap design... looking forward to your pictures.

Ok finally have gotten around to writing this review.

Mr Freedom Casquettte Deffe what a Cap!!!!

Like most cap wears here on the forum we look for a vintage cap that fits the image we see in vintage photo's.
Such as these from Shorpy.

Today the 8 panel cap is our only choice.
In the golden era there wear many cap manufactures and many style's of cap's.
The Deffe model by Mr. Feedom NAIL'S the 20's cap.

It is made with vintage fabric and feels wonderful on. The cap has a leather sweatband.

One problem with most cap's made today is that the front of the cap drape's over the bill of the cap too far.
The Deffe's bill extends out from the cap allowing a better vintage look.

There is a chin strap between the front of the cap and the bill. The bill is also made of a sturdy material covered with fabric.

Here is a close up of the fabric and the cap size tap which is held on with a pin.

Here is a picture of me wasting time while my wife was shopping at Kolh's this morning.

Oh and the great tweed flap-top is long gone. There was only to fabrics left in my size this great herringbone fabric a a plain grey. Wish I could have gotten it.
John said he didn't know if they where going to make another run of this cap. I wish they would as I would pick up another couple caps. So hurry the supplies are running low
on this great cap.

The latest two I´ve made:

Gabardine wool, lined with light brown cotton

New wool in herringbone, lined with dark brown cotton

Next one is going to be made from some fine Harris or Donegal Tweed I guess...

They certainly are proud of their hats.

They certainly know two things:


-- They realize that nobody else is mass-produced an eight-cornered flat cap (as opposed to a one-piece flat cap, or an eight-paneled cap) that has 1920-'30s period-correct dimensions and details. Nobody.

-- They also realize that there is a demand for such a cap ... a demand which outstrips the supply (which up to now has only been vintage pieces).


Bottom line is, high demand + low supply + expensive production costs (the caps are made in California, not China, and their fabrics and linings are vintage deadstock, from the '20s-'30s: purchased from a "...haberdashery manufacturer from Northern France, that had been around since the early 1920s and closed its doors in the mid 1960s") = high price.

As Marc said this is a true 20's cap not an 8 panel newboy. After trying to get orginal ones which will sell for over 200 bucks I decided to get one for a Christmas present. An this is a cap to be proud of I have caps for many of the current cap makers know here on the lounge and NOTHING touch's this cap in workmanship. It is like owning a Fedora from Art or Optimo the quality of componets and the care with which the cap is put together is top notch. I could buy a Stetson cap for 100 bucks. Stetson-Hats-Clothbut it would not be the style that I was looking for I have good 8 panel caps. I did not have a 20's cap and as Marc said their is really no one else making them and especially with 100 year old vintage destock fabric. I am a lover of hats I have learned that I can buy a cheap cap or spend money and get the hat I really want and that is what I did. An I am very happy with the purchase.

I hope they know they can make more Marc. As I said I could buy a nice new Stetson for 100 dollars less but it would never have the quality of fabric or design the Mister Freedom cap has.

The "Mister Freedom" store on Beverly Blvd. is near me. I'll be visiting it today at lunchtime, and I'll bring along some of my vintage caps and a measuring tape to make comparisons.

Here's a French ebay seller with a similar style although not period materials(grosgrain sweatband etc.) for a more modest price point. They sell pants too. I have some of their products on the way.
