The Cap Faction

Nice, congratulation.

Is it a full cut or an Xtra

It is a full cut - a good full cut. I ordered this fabric and Carol said she had one already made in storage in a banana box - it was 23 5/8 and I take a 23 1/2. I thought the fabric being lighter weight than my other two hp caps would make it a bit hard to shape and it wouldn't sit as well, but the fabric being a nice tight, fine weave works really well.

Interesting fabric looks like a full cut hat to me. You have it pull to the back to show the bill of the cap.

I am not that keen on plaids, but all these shirt weight wools seem to be plaids, and this fabric works really well. The drape, light weight and feel of the cap is fantastic. Yep, it is a full cut, that's my understanding anyway. I have this thing where I hate the feeling of a cap sitting on the higher part of the back of my head - I think I have a higher round skull rather than a longer shaped one - so I invariably pull the back of cap down over my skull a lot further than most people, which pulls the crown back a bit and probably ruins the newsboy shape somewhat, but the reason I wear this style of cap is because it has more room in the crown so I can do that.

I actually think this fabric would work really well in the Xtra Full Cut because it sits and drapes so well, and the fabric being lighter than the heather and tweed would keep it fairly light weight.

heya--looks good! have you posted a photo of the grey one too?
The shirt weight plaid is growing on me more and more every day - it sits very simarly the grey heather actually, inspite of the different weight. I love the texture of the plaid - it reminds me of those pastel crayon drawings. I did post a picture of the grey heather - it's on page 70 of this thread. I've also done a number of songs wearing the grey heather, but the lighting hasn't been real flash in them.

Great song and video, cool cap too! Carol of Hat People mentioned you and your videos when I called to inquire about a cap (same one you did the You Tube review on, which I just watched again). BTW, the page numbers posts will appear on will vary if settings are changed in preferences, but post numbers shouldn't, just FYI.

Got my first cap just yesterday, this is I think the same cap as posted by SpeedRcrX some time back. It's a Linen Newsboy in Natural, full cut from Hat People.

At first I was wondering if I should have gotten Extra Full (again, this is the regular "Full Cut"), but I'm liking it more and more as I wear it. I've found that at least for me, the options provide a quite different look. It can be worn the way most do, with the loose material pulled to the front. But (perhaps this is an influence from the Beret I've been wearing?) I've found I quite like it to the side, or partially to the front and part to the side. Even pulled back is an option (sort of the "stroker" look of the bikers from way back).

This one is actually to the left, but the mirror reverses it (sorry it's a bit blurry, but I liked the lines it showed).

Pulled back...

Pulled left, no mirror.

Pulled forward (horrible pic of me, but I was tired of shooting and it does capture the cap).

Pulled to the right.

I'm thinking for my next, the Green, Brown & Black Birdseye, I may just try the Extra Full Cut. I'd like to wear it forward with a bit more drape over the sides (plus I'm guessing this one with stiffer fabric may benefit from the additional real estate).

Well, these things are just plain fun. Thanks for reading!

Great photos, T Rick. It really is helpful to see people post pictures of caps you are thinking about ordering yourself. They are rather creative with their linings at Hat People. From the pics I've seen, I have no qualms about ordering a linen newsboy from hp.

Here's a Hat People full cut in a medium weight loden linen that just showed up today. This is a great lightweight hat. Now I can put my wool ones away until fall.
Sorry for the cheesy pics

I'm posting this picture, because if you've seen photos of me wearing these caps, they all look quite different in cut and volume, but as you can see, they are all quite similar when sat next to each other. The grey heather and brown-black-green are 23&1/2 inches, and the Blue Plaid is 23&5/8. The crown actually does look bigger on the blue plaid. The grey heather looks much bigger than the bbg when I am wearing it.

It's amazing what the color of the hats does to the perception of size isn't.:)
Yes, and because the Hat People use a range of different fabrics as well, you get a fair bit of variation in the look. Wool, particularly, is a diverse fibre and can be woven in a number of different ways that will effect the way it sits and drapes.

Well, we'll see how this one looks in a couple of weeks. Just placed another Hat People order for the Green, Brown & Black Birdseye cap in Extra Full. I can imagine getting the Heather Gray this Fall too, would go great with my Navy Peacoat. Not yet sure which cut that one will be (betting I'll go Extra Full again).

Looking forward to seeing some photos. I'll be intereseted to see how it works in the Extra Full Cut. The Heather Gray that I have is a wonderful cap - it is a very easy cap to shape - I've ridden around on a bike with it at 30km/hr and it didn't budge. It works quite well as a tidy, formal cap or as a tough, outdoors cap.
