Borsalino query

My Borsalino Brothers,
I am traveling about in the east coast. I am actually in the car heading back to Hampton Va from my first visit to Washington DC. I was returning back toward my hotel after the holiday pub crawl & noticed a mens clothing store with a few hats in the display. Naturally I awoke early this morning to see the offerings. Within a half hour I was the proud owner of a brand new, charcoal grey Borsalino fedora [ my first Borsalino]. My question now is : there is a sort of elastic cord around the hat just below the ribbon with a button of a sort attached. It is fixed to the lid, just underneath the bow. Can someone tell me if this is intended to remain in place & to what purpose? If there is no intention, how would one go about removing it without compromise to the fedora?

Wind cord, wind trolley, lapel cord...it has so many names. You can unravel it and put the button through a jacket lapel on a windy day.

This one has no model designation on the sweatband. The liner says, "Qualita Augusta." Unfortunately, I can't use the liner. It was an exact size 7, and I had to resize the hat to 7 1/8. I'll keep the liner, of course, but I like the hat just fine without it.

Black Borsalino from Sicily via Staten Island

Fits perfectly. 2-3/8" plain brim. This is the third hat recently acquired that the seller claimed had a circumference of 22" but is actually 22-3/4"(my size).
Seller is checking up on family history. Known generally to be 50 or more years old.
