Found on the way home from Fathers Day activities........Was I surprised!!!!
An Made for America Import with grand dimensions: Just under 2 3/4 inch brim and a bit more than a 5 3/4 open crown!!!! AND...a sweet "Cavanagh Edge" Brim!! It has a 1 3/4" ribbon and a full 2" roan sweat....
Interesting color too!!!!

I would guess about 1950 or so....based on the truly American market large proportion styling and the pre-1953 tag.

Well......according to research here in this thread the fully cerrated blocking tag was used from the later 1930's to about 1952-53. It has the common tip found on many U S imports plus it was sold in Chicago.....as we would not have been importing them during the war or even much before (think about it), it would be post war. Not sure how quick they were up to speed after the war exporting goods..........And dimensions are quite of the period for popular American hats of the time.....hence Circa 1950.

I do not claim to be an expert on Borsalinos but I can read these threads and process some of the information and try my best with my hat in hand.

Do you have a different date in mind? I could certainly have miss-read the label articles.....and it is mid-50's? It does have attributes of the both earlier and later labels.....

It is a bit later from what we've found of the dated hats. The labels that have cerrated edges all around (or at least three sides) were in use from about 1953 until 1960. The earlier ones were also cerrated but have the Borsalino name printed sideways on them.

I’ll confess that I’m not much of a hat scholar and really admire those who are. I can’t remember the dates with the scalloped edges all the day around the label, but I know when I see it it’s going to be a great hat.

Are there any labels under the sweat? SS are most likely the initials of the previous owner.

I considered that possibility that SS were the initials, but generally those are not embossed in the leather in gilded letters.

There are no labels but there is a stamp in the lining JX-A and on the sweatband there is a yellow teal mark XX and a cardinal ( I) ( looks like an H on its side)

Can't help you with the name, but I concur with Steve that the SS will be the initials of the previous owner. On older hats they most commonly appear as the little metal shields, but retailers, certainly in the later periods, offered goldfoil embossing for their customers as well.
This is, as you rightly guessed, a more modern Borsalino country model. I doubt they named these hats in this period of their production. But both the liner and the little Borsalino shield on the outside are more modern and not seen on earlier Borsalinos.

It's being slightly stiffened and cleaned and some stitching being fixed on the band, I'll post some pictures when I get it back.

My other Borsalino is similar, but a bit greyer and stiffer, both amazingly luxurious hats to hold and to wear.

If you like vintage felt hats you have to love vintage Borsalinos. My problem is rarely finding them in my size.

size is indeed a problem, at least in the NL, I wear 60 ( but have hats which declare anything between 59 to 62) , finding Borsalino larger than 57 is not easy.

This one I have said XL and is a bit larger than my head , needed some corks.

It's a modern Borsalino and this kind of label was used from 1983 onwards and that's as close as we're going to get. Not much to be done about the fraying straw. You could touch it up with some lacquer, shellac maybe, to fixate it. I can even imagine fixating it it a tiny amount of woodglue and a clamp. Sometimes English panamas have a brim binding, but that would be something you would need to have done by a hatter.
