et's go back to the series of orphaned hats, this time the brand is very well known
borsalino-57-marron-2-jpg.364319

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 5 (french point) or 57 centimeters corresponds to a 7 in the USA
borsalino-57-marron-4-jpg.364320

The color of the felt is "Biber" and the type of hat is "Ecosan"
borsalino-57-marron-6-ala-jpg.364321

The hat seems to come from a batch made at the turn of the 40s and the beginning of the 50s
borsalino-57-marron-interno-totale-jpg.364322

It arrived since these days as it was made because it lack a owner

These are the measurements: the brims edged with a very thin ribbon that takes up the color of the main one are 7 centimeters, the ribbon is a 3cm and the crown at the lowest point is 11cm.
borsalino-57-marron-5-jpg.364324

The felt is of medium consistency and firm to maintain the shape that is obtained without steam
borsalino-57-marron-7-ala-jpg.364325
For all the fans of the "casa di Alessandria" I left the flat brims and did some tests with the front lowered, so everyone will chose the best Borsalino profile

How can I present a hat that I saw in the dim light of a parking lot in a gigantic mall and I ardently hoped it was my size, hands touching it revealed the drama
borsalino-misto-volga-1-jpg.364893
Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 3 1/2 or 54 centimeters a 6 3/4 in US.
borsalino-misto-volga-3-jpg.364898

Felt is a blend that also contains wool and has that touch that made Borsalino a master in mixed felts
borsalino-misto-volga-2-jpg.364899

The felt is "Mixed Volga" and the hat type is "Celesti"
borsalino-misto-volga-interno-totale-jpg.364901
Simple and excellently made, let's say about ninety years ago because it has the same components as some Borsalinos sold in Eastern Europe and in Germany before the Second World War

It is one of my favorites of this Mantova find
The measurements are as follows: the raw brim is 7cm, the ribbon is 2cm high, the highest point of the open crown is 12 centimeters.
borsalino-misto-volga-4-jpg.364905
Every now and then someone over the years has asked me what my favorite hats are, here is one
borsalino-misto-volga-6-jpg.364908

Small size man what a lucky day ;)

Wow, I like that one a lot. It does tick all the right boxes. Don't have one in beaver yet;)

I may have a small head, but this is one I can't make work for me, now matter how much I want it to. The very best of Borsalino hatmaking on display in a gorgeous misto felt. I going to sit in a corner and cry a little now...

Also for this Borsalino I had a blow to the heart when it emerged from the box coming from Mantova and also for it the disappointment was great
pomice-borsalino-1-jpg.365093

It has the same age as the brother shown yesterday and the same great features, but alas the same size.
pomice-borsalino-3-jpg.365095

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 3 1/2 or 54 centimeters a 6 3/4 in US.
pomice-borsalino-5-jpg.365096

The felt color is "Pomice" and the hat type is "Debrosan"
pomice-borsalino-interno-totale-jpg.365097

It is more elgant then the "Misto Volga" and excellently made, also this is about ninety years old because it has the same components as some Borsalinos sold in Eastern Europe and in Germany before the Second World War

The oil skin protection has broken during the long time it was in a small hats shop near Mantova
pomice-borsalino-6-jpg.365099

The measurements are as follows: the brim with a minimal edged ribbon is 6.5cm, the ribbon is 3cm high, the highest point of the open crown is 13 centimeters
pomice-borsalino-4-jpg.365100

As I publish these very small hats I hope there is someone who can wear them, perhaps with some small adjustments, but leaving them in a box would be a very serious sin.

Hey everyone! @deadlyhandsome recommended I bring this post over from “Western, Anyone?” Need some help identifying the age of this western. Would also like to know what kind of quality “extra extra superior” is! Any help would be most appreciated. It belonged to Charles Millby Dale, the 66th governor of New Hampshire
I have long wanted to move to New Hampshire just so I could get their license plate on my auto!

I believe these manufacturers tags point to mid to late 50s.

on the extra extra Superiore I think I’d have to go through some of mine to see if and have that designation. But I think I remember there is sometimes no rhyme or reason to those. But my anticipation would be… very good!

The western Borsalino was sold in Venezia, this makes me smile because it is a tourist hat. You can sell anything in Venice, even a western hat to the delight of some overseas tourists.
I believe it is a hat from the 1950s when the wording "Qualità Extra Extra Superiore" was still, perhaps, synonymous with a hat with felt and high quality finishes. The color of the felt is "Ghiaccio-Ice" and the type of hat is "Otlaita" if I read correctly. It has no meaning like all the names of Borsalino hats. Perhaps they were acronyms to determine the shape and finishes, but there is no manual to decipher them.
To recap it is a western hat made in Alessandria-Italy and sold in Venezia probably to the governor of New Hampshire who came on a trip to the Serenissima Repubblica:)

That is a very nice looking hat, Panos.

Another local find. I was already very happy with what my local market had to offer this year but this one exceeded all of my expectations. I'll let the pics do the talking. Originally imported for the Swedish market, but luckily ended up in Norway. This is the original crease the hat came to me with, though after brushing and steaming no creasing marks were left, it wasn't worn much either. Fantastic fur felt. Handwritten label, also I can't recall seeing before a Borsalino (in person at least) with stitched in place ribbon and bow, usually associated with German-Austrian hats. Everything says late 20s-early 30s to me, others might know better.

Tha super thin single ply ribbon really works well on that one, Jesse.

Borsalino almost the way I like them best; just the size would need to suit me.

Just want to take a moment to thank everyone for the information and/or compliments. Everyone's input makes this hat much more appreciated and I'm happy I shared it with you all. Smart that they produced westerns for tourists... Id certainly be a sucker for it then (as I am now). I reblocked it and cleaned up the felt on it yesterday, just waiting on a new sweatband to come in. Ill post of pic when the job is done! Im very excited. Again, thank you all.
