The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Stefan, Great find and background info! I think there is enough evidence (date stamps) that Echter Borsalino with the separate size stamp are late 1930s early 1940s. This one also has a similar sweatband type as some of the Echter Borsalino with the separate size stamp. What is interesting is the sweatband seam is stitched. What does that look like? Is it possible it was restored / modified (stamp on felt) by Borsalino?

I noticed that too, so I had my eye on the Max Eckard:
The structure of the sweats with the small "spots" is often the same
on the early Echter Borsalino and on Stefans newest find;
and it is different from the (my) later stamp-dated ones.

Borsa Gorasgu. Special thanks to Brent (aka D.Handsome) for making this piece available not long ago! Thanks so much, my fellow hatter!

I thought I could see some love there. :)

We’d love to see you around more, Doc. You have some truly incredible hats and a great style.

Thanks Brent! I appreciate the kind gesture! I learn a bunch from you and the fellow hatters! If my noggin was smaller I'd prolly have too many more! :) Since I cannot afford to collect vintage cars, vintage hats are the next sweet addictions! :D

Max, my presumption is a client in Parma, where it was sold, saw this kind of hat and asked to his shop to have one. Borsalino sent three or four of these hats type to reach a minimun and the shop did the rest. It is not a common hat in the north Italy. To have a bespoke Borsalino you can inquire directly the factory, may be they allowe to do somenthing very personal :)

Borsalino Alessandria - Qualitá Superiore
TAR Stratoliner Clone - Silverbelly with gold trim
4 1/2 Crown as shaped - 5 1/4 open
2 5/8 brim with 1/8 gold grosgrain binding
3/8 grosgrain TAR ribbon in a gold color
Wind Trolley

Just when I tell myself no more Silverbelly thin ribbons… Brent @deadlyhandsome alerts me to this beautiful Borsalino Alessandria in a color scheme and price that made me throw that plan right out the window. You really just don’t say no to hats like this one. I love these kind of proportions on a hat and the light Silverbelly felt with the darker sort of gold colored grosgrain thin ribbon and binding make a real nice contrast. It is also appointed with a wind trolley. The felt is thin and dense and creates a nice sharp brim that holds its shape well. The hat brushed up real nice and has plenty of character in its crease as is. A little steam might me in order at some point.. but it is really straight up wear ready.

Unfortunately I did not find any paper labels under the sweat. So unsure on dating one like these.

Thank you to Brent for the heads up on this one for a lightning quick snag.

Excellent catch, Joe. Usually these are from the early fifties.

Love the matching brim binding and ribbon treatment. Nicely contrasts and highlights the silver belly colour of the felt. Congrats Joe.
