The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Love the matching brim binding and ribbon treatment. Nicely contrasts and highlights the silver belly colour of the felt. Congrats Joe.
Thanks Steve. I agree. As if I needed something to push me over the edge to pull the trigger on this one…. But if there was… that was it. :):D

Absolutely! No waay could you say no to that one. You'd have been kicking yourself in the rear end for years to come, and rightly so :)

To make up for the missing hat of the Greek hat haul (the Mogano coloured hat could not be saved) here's a special treat. This one came in from Croatia and arrived within just a few days. The UK postal services should take some lessons there; been waiting for a month now for a hat from England and no movement noticeable yet.
Anyway, I digress.
Borsalino qualitá Augusta Eiarsan fedora in Senapa (mustard) colour. Both model and colour are new and haven't been seen before, which is why I went for this hat in the first place. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 9,5cm at the center dent. This one is interesting for another reason as well: it has the separate size sticker and we can confirm Steve's @mayserwegener conclusion that these date to the early forties. His example was datestamped and this one isn't. So, how can we confirm this then? Well, the retailers are Fratelli Vuckovic from Cattaro. Cattaro was and is known as Kotor near Dubrovnik in Montenegro and it was only known as Cattaro during a brief period in WWII, namely from 1941-1943 when it was part of the Kingdom of Italy. How cool is that?
The hat is in plendid condition. Another feature not seen before is the stamping on the inside of the felt just above the Borsalino logo on the sweatband. Also a lightweight hat with just 92 grams.

I'm glad you ended up with this hat, Stefan!

Borsa Gorasgu. Special thanks to Brent (aka D.Handsome) for making this piece available not long ago! Thanks so much, my fellow hatter!

A beautiful Gorasgu for you, Doc!

Figured you end up with this, Max. Congrats on this unique addition to your fold.

Borsalino Alessandria - Qualitá Superiore
TAR Stratoliner Clone - Silverbelly with gold trim
4 1/2 Crown as shaped - 5 1/4 open
2 5/8 brim with 1/8 gold grosgrain binding
3/8 grosgrain TAR ribbon in a gold color
Wind Trolley

Just when I tell myself no more Silverbelly thin ribbons… Brent @deadlyhandsome alerts me to this beautiful Borsalino Alessandria in a color scheme and price that made me throw that plan right out the window. You really just don’t say no to hats like this one. I love these kind of proportions on a hat and the light Silverbelly felt with the darker sort of gold colored grosgrain thin ribbon and binding make a real nice contrast. It is also appointed with a wind trolley. The felt is thin and dense and creates a nice sharp brim that holds its shape well. The hat brushed up real nice and has plenty of character in its crease as is. A little steam might me in order at some point.. but it is really straight up wear ready.

Unfortunately I did not find any paper labels under the sweat. So unsure on dating one like these.

Thank you to Brent for the heads up on this one for a lightning quick snag.

Zlateff Trionfo Dragospo in Argento:

IMG_4075.JPG

Specs:
5-1/4" Crown (open)
2-1/8" Brim
7/8" Ribbon
80g Weight
Took a bit of a chance on this as the seller's pictures weren't the best. I knew it could use a reblocking, suspected it was stained (it is), and figured it'd be tight (it is), but I couldn't ignore the allure of a Zlateff Borsalino. All that said, this may be the finest, most obedient piece of felt I've ever handled.

Great find, Jonathan. Unlined, lightweight, pre-war and from Simeon Zlateff; it ticks all the boxes. Makes me wonder when Borsalino started using the Trionfo and Augusta lines.

A very classic Lobbia Borsalino in light and malleable black felt
lobbia-nera-borsalino-5-jpg.347677

Its peculiarity is that it was sold by a shop in Genoa, Sartoris, which has its own brand as a brand in the lining and not that of the Alessandria hat manufacturer.
lobbia-nera-borsalino-interno-totale-jpg.347678

Borsalino Qualità Extra Extra Superiore quality, the size measures approximately 58 centimeters or a 5 1/2 in the Borsalino measurement system.
lobbia-nera-borsalino-2-jpg.347680
There is no a tag size. and the internal measurements being 20.3x16.5 centimeters
lobbia-nera-borsalino-1-jpg.347681
From its features and dimensions: the curled brims are 6 cm., the ribbon is 4.8 cm and the crown at its lowest point is 10 cm seems to come from the 1950s
lobbia-nera-borsalino-3-jpg.347682

The paper label said us the type and nothing else, also because I don't want to force the sweatband which has some fragile seams

A very elegant homburg with a special felt for its softness and malleability

In summer purchases, this hat also arrived for the simple reason that I love this Borsalino color very much
Dattero 58 1.JPG
Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 5 1/2 or 58 centimeters in Europe and 7 1/8 in the US.
Dattero 58 5.JPG

The production is the historical one of the late sixties early seventies
Dattero 58 etichetta carta.JPG
The hat is very well preserved and has the color "Dattero" which I really like even if in this version it seems to have lost some of the yellow that warmed it, but you know that the colors of the felt are never the same
Dattero 58 4.JPG

The felt is medium weight and the brims are finished with a very small ribbon seal the same color as the ribbon
Dattero 58 2.JPG

The bow is one of my favorites in the Borsalino production.
Dattero 58 interno totale.JPG

The interior show a classil lining of the period of production
Dattero 58 3.JPG

The measurements are as follows: the brims measure 6.5 cm, the ribbon 2.5 and the crown at the lowest point is 10.5 cm
A classic shape for a quality hat

Borsalino thin ribbon. A great light mocha brown. 5.5” open crown and just over 2 3/4” bound brim. The felt is some of the best I’ve ever handled. It’s incredibly thin, but it’s not at all limp. It easily creases and the creases stay exactly as it’s put in. I love this claylike felt. I dry creased it with a fairly shallow center dent to accentuate the crown height. I knew this was a light hat from the moment I picked it up, but I can’t believe my postal scale which consistently reads 2.1 ounces. Is that possible?

How did I miss this? It doesn't get any more classic, or better, than this: a Mula in extra extra superiore. Magnificent.

Congrats, Brent! A new lightweight champion and in a large size as well, which makes it even better. That is a fabulous find. Makes you wonder how on earth they pulled it off.
