The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Borsalino stingy. No label inside. Size 56 with the bound brim at 4,7cm and the crown 10cm at the center dent. The sweatband is not original. Sometimes a hat looks better on the pics. Nothing wrong with the felt though; the hand is fantastic and the felt is very dense.

Nice Homburg, Stefan!
"Unfortunately" it is simply black, but the initials are a wink from heaven!
I've grown used to black homburgs being the dominant species. The European variant of the silverbelly;)
Thanks, Matt.

Pity about the missing tag, gorgeous hat though.

Nice catch, Stefan. Glad you bagged this one. With those initials it just had to end up with you or me :)

I always get a bit excited if I find a new Borsalino model. Steve @Steve1857 didn't bid because he thought it wouldn't fit him (he was right), so I could land this one cheap. The seller's pictures had it looking in a bit of a state (that helps).
Borsalino lobbia Eglesti in black. Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. It is a bit lower than the far more common Gulaela model lobbia.
Imported by Petitgas of Copenhagen, which is more or less on Steve's doorstep.

My initials were already in it: it was meant to be it seems.

Courtesy of @Daniele Tanto, a new old beauty. Faunosca in "Condor", from sometime around 1950 or so. Elegant and light as a feather. What really amazes me in these vintage Borsalinos is how the felt is like clay - so soft and shapeable but holds whatever bash you shape.
Dan, I am happy to see you wear the Borsalino between the signs and the Japanese nature :)
I have a special relationship with the "Sol Levante" as my daughter has a degree in Japanese and lived in Nagasaki for about six months last year.
Above all I'm happy it is your size and your liking. Thanks!

Nagasaki is a wonderful city, with a remarkable resilience and positivity given its violent and tragic history.

I need to get a good photo of that Faunosca in the sun, because the color is quite something.

Gents,

I know we've discussed Qualita designations quite a bit. The designation "Qualita Aquila" was mentioned but to no conclusion as to felt content etc. I have a fabulous Borsalino that is of that designation and includes 3 stars. Just curious if anyone has seen this before or understands the connotation of the designation and the starts. Thanks in advance for whatever you have.

I have done a similar search and not come up with much, and I have only seen one or two Aquila hats. One I recall appeared pre-war. Yours having three stars should help a little; one of the more serious Borsalino guys can probably give a decent date from the label - 50+ you think?

The big question: how does the felt feel compared to the others you’ve had?

It feels more like a Resistol 3X beaver felt than the usual rabbit Borsalino. Not that any of them are in any way undesirable. In fact, they are all pretty darn amazing.

Thanks for the reply.

Ciao Adrian, first question: it was sold in Italy or outside? Second question: it is possible havea some pictures of the interior and exterior plus measurements? Thanks. I think it will help. "Mombasa" is a rare color seen here. From the paper label it seems not so old. Any other details helps more :)
