My first Borsalino. It seems a lot like my Dobbs Cross Country in terms of the felt quality and overall lightness. Any info this model/style hat would be appreciated.

What does this tag signify?

Congrats on your first Borsalino. And it's a great start too. Castagna is quite a rare colour. Everything else is pretty much covered by @TheOldFashioned 's answer. Spot on.

The hat arrived a couple of days ago and it was a gamble ... but a winner.
Difficult to understand through photographs of the seller and his information, but the appearance of this Borsalino was to be taken into consideration and so I tried a purchase.
Honestly I thought I had an interesting hat in my hand but the usual measures of ancient hats: that is small.
It was ready to leave and go to the lands of northern Europe, when the package was opened the surprise arrived
grisfer-4-jpg.190370

Borsalino Qualità Superiore size 6 1/2 or 60 cm 7 1/2 US
The color is "M. Gris fer" which means iron gray with black ribbon
grisfer-3-jpg.190371

Probably produced in the thirties and sold in Domodossola, on the border with Switzerland

The paper label was the "double" with size tag stucked on the main

Felt is magnificent and the percentage of wool that makes it feel velvety to the touch, the stiffnes is low on brim and medium on the crown. The ribbon is very beautiful, but alas it has some points of wear and it will be changed.
The interior is perfect, even if the paper label under the sweatband has come unstuck
grisfer-interno-r-jpg.190374

The dimensions are: raw brim at 6 cm, open crown at 14 cm. and the ribbon is 5 cm.
grisfer-1-jpg.190375

It has been placed in a steam bath, brushed and cared for in every detail, but needs some retouching to be worn.
It is one of the rare Borsalino, sold in Italy, which is, personal opinion, a produced between the two world wars :)

Congratulations on this great find, Daniele. Your perseverance has paid off, big time! Wonderful looking hat in a super colour. I could even imagine wearing it as it is, with all its history and character. Is there a model name on the label too?

Daniele, Fantastic find and major congrats! Love see hats like this one. You are definitely correct on the dating and the difficulty of finding such hats from the Italian/Domestic market.

Not mine, documentation purposes only. Someone won this Goraspo in Forra a few weeks ago on eBay:

Using these as search parameters only the second hat on here in this color and the first of this model. Given the rarity even @steur will have to appreciate this green one. ;)
I did like that one actually and even considered bidding on it. It's not my size though and went for quite a bit higher than I was willing to pay for it. Wonder if it was a lounger who got it.

Documented proof that Stefan likes green hats!

I held off on posting sooner in case it was a Lounger that won it. I figure after 3+ weeks it's safe to post without stealing anyone's thunder.

It is a beauty, jack. I was hoping that one would fly under the radar due to the ambiguous size in the listing. You weren't fooled. I did bid on that one, but was left in the dust. Good for you!

Oh my! Thank you! Like you, I had similar thoughts! I was actually quite surprised at the win! I have one that I'd sent off to be updated and just went ofter this one on more of a whim! Fits more like a 7 3/8 but with a little 'push' it should be fine! I find the Punti sizes run a size smaller (thanks to the knowledge I receive from hatters like you and others in The Lounge).

Well, it wasn't cheap shipping it over, but I have to admit that it was fairly fast and there was no additional cost for import taxes. So all in all a bit of a mixed bag with Ebay's global shipping. Finally added a Borsalino Gorasgu to the collection. Have handled a couple of these before but so far one that fitted me eluded me.
Borsalino Gorasgu misto maroso in a size 7. Overwelt (with blind stitching) brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent, unreeded sweatband. The felt goes anywhere you want it to. As with most misto felts there's likely some wool content there, but from the hand it has you wouldn't know it. For now it has the usual center dent and side pinches, but I might go for a diamond in this one. Does need a bit of steam here and there and the pinches are a bit uneven, but I couldn't wait. Chuffed!

That is one super looking Borsalino misto, Stefan. I can almost feel that misto felt mix. Congrats.
