Borsalino Rex

I welcome any input regarding this particular Borsalino which I recently picked up. I haven't seen one with "Rex" on the crown tip so maybe someone here can elaborate on this particular model of Borso. I pretty sure it's likely early 50s or older. It had an oilskin crown tip cover at one time. I'm not planning to sell it in case you're wondering.

The wide sweatband and manufacturing label with separate size sticker suggest the hat is earlier, perhaps pre WWII. I'm not sure how much of the liner markings are store specific... I've not seen it before. A great find.

Looks very similar Alan. I wonder when they started incorporating the size into on single tag. It's interesting that the size tag has a perforated border so it can fit into the other tag. If perfectly aligned it would look like one tag.

I have a couple German market Borsalinos from the late 30s early 40s with the same label arrangement. I believe some of the SZ (Bulgaria) Borsalinos do too.

Nice Borso Mayserwegener. Looks like yours has the textured leather sweatband. The ones I own or did own that come from Sofia Bulgaria also have textured leather sweatbands. Don't know if this was more common on the Bulgarian market hats! All of the ones I have that were sold on the Italian or American market have smooth leather sweatbands with the exception of a blue velour Borso which has a white textured leather sweatband.

I have a couple of other old German (Echter) Borsalinos with such textured sweatbands. I believe the other hats are from the same time period as the one above. I would think the sweatband type was available to all but might have been more popular in particular markets.

does anyone own a Borsalino sisal straw hat? particularly this one (http://www.delmonicohatter.com/product/13P004242.htm) sold through Delmonico? i just ordered one as the Akubra Stylemaster I wanted wasn't going to make it to me before I left for my vacation to Hawaii. Living in LA, I feel OK about swapping a felt for a straw, but was curious about the quality of the sisal. Most of what's listed online re sisal is it's less expensive and can dry out with age. really hoping this hat is typical Borsalino quality as it's typical Borsalino priced.

Trying to get a replacement bow ribbon? My original Borsalino bow ribbon was destroyed doing cleaning many years ago. I need a black grosgrain bow ribbon (w/ Borsalino name on the bow) to fit a 7 3/8 fedora.

Thanks,

Hey folks!

I found this about a year ago at a thrift store. It was in beautiful condition, just needed a good steaming and reshaping to get out the wrinkles and bends from being processed at a thrift store. I was wondering if anyone could give me an approximate age and maybe a model name. Brim: 2 1/2", Crown 5", 1 1/2" deep crease.
