Thanks very much! I am very happy with this hat. The form is older than its years - the crown is higher and less tapered than most of the 1950s Borsalinos that I have found. Will definitely not be going back in that little box.
That is one of the most impressive Borso crowns I have seen.

Got a Q for your Borsalino mavens. Summer, the Dreaded Summer, will be here in The Swamp before I know it, and I have to think about a nice straw. There's this at Bencraft: http://www.bencrafthats.com/product.php?pid=480&subcname=Straw+Hats

Has anyone ever bought one of these? I like a good forebrim swoop -- is the brim on a Panama shapeable with a little water?

This Oriental Panama might be shantung or paper mix. Make sure you find out as either will be hard to reshape without damage, specially with water.

The from the looks of it Borsalino Continental Homburg that I won on ebay came today. The wind cord is a little streached out. Anyway to fix that or do I have to replace it? It was a little soft so I steamed it up and reshaped the crown and it is all set to wear. Any idea as to date? I figure 80's or 90's . So here are the pics of my new friend.

Size tag as all three major systems. Selller listed at as a 7 to 7 1/2. I figured out what was going on and made him a offer before all the other big heads saw it.

It's easy to replace the wind trolley if needed - Optimo will sell you one. Is this an elastic cord? I've received a couple of unworn 1950s Borsos with cords still rolled and stowed inside the ribbon for shipping. They were both very long, easily wound twice around the crown. Is yours like that?

Borsalino 5.5" x 2.5", cav edge, 22 L black ribbon & windcord, model Gorasgu, color Palladio

:eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap. Very smart and nicely proportioned, Rabbit - Palladio is a great colour IMHO. Keeping my eyes peeled for a Palladio with black ribbon like yours - the only Palladio Borso I currently have is a velour with self coloured ribbon and brim binding.

Somebody is selling this box on etsy. I'm posting it here as I think it contributes to the theory that Alan and I have that this were shipping, temporary boxes and not containers for rollable hats.

That's a great artifact. I wonder if there is/was more postage on it. 70 Lira in 1966 would have been about 11 cents. Looks like the hat made it in good shape too. At least the box did.
