Thanks hatophile I have been on the prowl for a nice vintage lid. I had no desire to get a new one so this one has been screaming at me on ebay. The seller took 60 dollars off original asking price so I took a shot.

That might be why so many pristine vintage toppers are still around . . . most folks would feel like a walking tintype in one. Stunning museum piece, nonetheless.

I am officially a member of the brotherhood since the acquisition of my vintage Alessandria! Photos courtesy of Maureen Jones, photographer.

Looking very suave and content, jbucklin. :eusa_clap

I got an excellent Borsalino from Iyor, and it has this plastic device sewn into the front, I suppose as a "shape-keeper"? Anyone else have a hat with this device?

This is a typical device (I have many of them) used by hat stores in Germany in the 1960s and later. I have never seen one sewn in though. Is this a German market Borsalino?

Steve, you right with that, " Hutstütze" German Word for that part.

Randall, this are Parts of Retail Stores in Germany. It gives many different Forms about that. This is typical for German Hats to protect the form of Front Pinches by Hand. Happy Holidays

That explains why this one was installed crooked: probably added by someone along the line.

I think it's an Italian Borsalino, judging by the markings:
