Thats one BEAUTIFUL Borso !!! PERFECT proportions, BEAUTIFUL color and the PERFECT crease !!
Beautiful indeed!
I wanted to let you know that I have a beautiful green Borsalino for sale, I listed it in the classifieds yesterday. It has a 21" interior diameter & 2 1/2" brim, extra extra superiore quality
Thanks so much. I don't think this will be a daily hat - I have others that have better proportions - but I know it will get a fair amount of use.
Thanks - I agree it is amazing that the sweatband is still so flexible. It is much thinner than the sweatbands on any of my other hats, but no sign of drying or cracking. I suspect the hat hasn't been rolled and unrolled too many times.
Here's another "new to me" Borsalino, again thanks to a fellow Lounger.
This one has proportions I really like - 5 3/4 open crown and 2 5/8 bound brim. It was originally sold by Henry the Hatter, part of the price tag remain, but most was removed at some point.
When it arrived, the hat had a wind trolley. I'm not sure if it was original, it wasn't very well attached at either end and was elastic rather than cord. In any case, I've removed it for safe keeping.
Everything else is in super condition - a delight to wear and fast becoming a favorite hat!
I found my first Borsalino in a thrift shop a couple of days ago. I'm guessing from the label under the sweatband that the model is Amiata. It was made for Simpson's, a now defunct Canadian department store. It's wonderfully soft and luxurious. What is this finish? Velour? Angora?
Don't know how keen I am on the hatband. I may replace it with a dark blue or dark green grosgrain band.

Great looking hat, and I am going to have to bone up on how I bash hats myself, yours always look so sharp!
I think I would replace with a ribbon, but also hang onto what you take off to keep it in case someone wants or needs it. I have always been partial to a ribbon that is some what a contrast to the color of the hat. I am sure you will make that hat look great when you are done!
YES! Something dowdy about those ropey bands. They shout "REALLY OLD MAN!" A sleek new ribbon will transform that hat. Just my opinion, of course.
Believe it or not, I mold my hats around a rolling pin to make the centre crease. I'm sure a baseball bat would be just as good, but don't have one.
Once the crease is done, just use thumb and finger to do the pinch. Blast of steam (from the iron in my case) to make it stay and you're done!
I like it a lot more now!
