tagged as 40's deadstock. cloth size label. price tag intact - $20. printed on sweatband Lundstrom, San Francisco.

love this hat! sorry for the low-res iPhone photos.

Hello:

Can you clarify whether the hat was sold as 40's deadstock or is marked in some way as 1940's? I have been doing research on Lundstrom and have no newer date than 1929 at present. I plan to start thread with my research if one has not already been started, and would appreciate any information you can add.

Chepstow, tell us more about the anti allergenic sweat band. I like that idea, especially after removing a couple of sweats recently and now have to keep them outside in the garage as they smell like a dead cow.

The Paper Label Borsalino Qualita Speciale

This one was made in 1982 based on the paper label which makes sense regarding the liner. This one was produced in the old factory. I guess the ribbon and bow are from that time period although the Borsalino label on the bow still has me scratching my head.

Bond that is what i found about Professor Dr. Jäger

4th Natural "wool" and their use for human clothing. Prophylactic and therapeutic applications. Garment Physiological requirements

Wool sheep and their history
Sheep's wool is without doubt the most widely used for apparel wool fiber.
Prof. Dr. Hunter, also known as wool and wool hunters system!

Even in the Bible in the Old Testament we read of "the rich owners of sheep."

Sheep wool could already be made into clothing before about 5000 years ago. The technique of spinning, knitting or weaving was already known.

Sheep's wool has excellent heat-therapeutic properties but also for maintaining the health of humans.

In the 19th century focused on Professor Jäger (Born on 23 June 1832 as son of a Württemberg pastor.) Extensively as with the wool clothing. It examined the many uses of wool for the preservation of human health and had some amazing successes.

MD et. chir. Gustav Jäger, general practitioner, professor of physiology, anthropology and zoology at the Royal Polytechnic and the Royal School of Stuttgart animal medicine and the Agricultural Academy of Hohenheim was a renowned scientist in his fields ..

At the age of just 40 years, he resigned his professorship, and devoted himself entirely to the Wool Research.

As wool and soul hunter he was known. This reputation he has acquired, especially with his books "The clothes than normal health" (1881) and "My System" (1885). Also, he published a "monthly magazine": magazine for health care and life teaching from 1881 to 1909.Hierin published the results of his researches wool.

That he did until his death by 36 vintages through its monthly magazine always impress with their essays the stamp of his mind, is a proof of the richness of ideas at his disposal, from the sharpness of vision with which he all processes of life considered, (from the obituary Wuertt. 1917) of the dexterity of the spring, by which he understood his thoughts, research, and claims to give expression.

Subscribers to the magazine at that time were mainly doctors, pharmacists and teachers.

He sat back then one of the wool for the heat treatment and thus had good success.

For more information about Prof. Dr. Hunter by his great-great-granddaughter of Selma Grönbeck in a detailed biography!

Produced was the "hunter washing" of the then-known company "Wilh. Benger & Sons" in Stuttgart.

Jäger laundering was patented and protected, and was sold in all industrialized countries. It consisted of 100% wool with no blending.

The company already had Benger with "Raiders of laundry" offices in Paris, London and New York.

Even from my early youth I have known that my father "hunter vests" had been very honored.

Why is it today nothing more is known? They wore in earlier centuries mostly underwear made of linen, a natural Woolies was not rough, but much more pleasant on the skin as underwear to wear.

Here, the health benefits of Woolies were felt for anyone.

Then went cleanly people a weekly with soap and scrubbing brush in the public baths, but today almost everyone has his own bathroom at home.

However, soap and scrubbing brush you're looking mostly to no avail.

Today, there are shower gels, lotions and bath salts, which are available. The human skin has become much more sensitive. Since we can expect only in exceptional cases, that people wear natural, untreated wool wash.

Underwear made from 100% natural sheep's wool can now only very "hard men" bear directly on the skin.

The sheep wool has, as is clearly visible under the microscope, a very rough surface.

Although this surface can be smoothed by chemical means,

But this also reduces the health effects of Woolies for the wearer.

Therefore, we took a look around at what else the nature "rare animal hair" adding that that is relevant to soft and skin-friendly.

Here it should be possible to use without much pre-treatments for the people of today.

that is the Link for the german site.

Thanks Chepstow for the info re: the wool sweatband. I like the idea ,but I wonder how it will hold up from sweat staining and how to clean it when it does become soiled over time? I suppose unlike leather it will not contract which is good, and because it breathes more than leather does it will not smell either from time and perspiration.

yes you're right, of course, is somewhat more difficult to clean
I flap it out and clean it with a damp cloth and let it dry again
It carries very comfortably and is air permeable

Borso in a box

I had been hoping to find one of these for a while and was excited to finally receive this one which spent three weeks traveling from Argentina to Buffalo. I would guess this one has been rolled and stored in its box for 60+ years. I don't think it has ever been worn before today.

After steaming and ironing, it fluffed back up quite well. Unfortunately, the seller cut through the onion skin paper protector to show the crown medallion. There was really no choice other than to remove it.

Here's mine playing spy trying to blend into the shadows.

It just came back from Henry the Hatter, where Joe did an excellent job of sewing in a new sweat band for me.

They did such a nice job and for only $20! They are definitely getting some repeat business from me! It came blocked open crown in a hat box, and Joe even put in a new feather for me!

Alan, the new Rollable is just great - nice job on getting it into shape.

I agree that these hats were probably not intended to be rolled and unrolled too many times. I keep mine on the shelf, open crown although I've rolled it for several trips with no problems.

Matt, looks like a good job on the new sweatband. Nice that you get get a Borsalino one installed as well.
