My mystery Borsalino arrived. It’s not what I was expecting. The size is indeed 7 7/8...which in Borsalino sizing means it fits my 7 5/8 long oval head perfectly. The open crown is a huge 6 1/2 inches and the bound brim (before the curl) is 3 1/8 inches. I love the soft velour felt.

Hello all,
I am new to the forums, and have posted this in the general forum but was encouraged to post here. I found this Borsalino Fedora in a vintage shop in Amery Wisconsin. I have done some basic research on this Borsalino hat and have an understanding that the Maurice Rothchild stamp on the inside of the hat refers to a department store in Chicago Illinois that closed in 1955. I have gotten some feedback from the previous post , in that it is indeed an old hat. I have included a few more pictures to find out more. ?
I am very happy with the hat, it is in great shape and i got it for 65 bucks.

thanks to all that have provided some information !
I'm not really a hat collector , but i will say i have been looking for a long time for something that works, and to stumble on this is really exciting !
I do collect other things - vinyl mostly - so i can feel the collecting vibe strike me for hats !
And by the way.............. I informed my gal about the info i got earlier and she informed me that she was the one that saw it first................so there is that.....!
Ha !.............
Thanks everybody !

That's a great find! The model name is Fantespo, which we've seen before. The colour is a new one on me: never seen "sandalo" before. Congrats.

My Marque Grande Luxe (MGL) arrived. It’s an absolutely fantastic hat, but it does not have the large dimensions that I personally prefer. The overwelt brim is incredible and almost looks and feels felted. Even though it’s not my normal preferred proportions, I’d gladly keep it if it was my size. 4 1/2 inch open crown and 2 inch wide brim. Pristine condition all the way around. Outside/natural light show the true color. This is sadly going straight into our classifieds.

Absolutely gorgeous hat. Shouldn't take too long to find a good home for it. Caffe is a great colour.

One of the few Borsalinos I got from Bill Hughes some time ago. View attachment 219342 View attachment 219343 View attachment 219344
What can I say? Borsalino at its best.

Well, what do you know? Congrats, Brent! After a few strike-outs this time it worked out! Some generous proportions on that one and a very nice looking felt.

Thanks, Stefan. The tags and branding still have me confused. I’m not sure what it’s history is, and there isn’t any reference to Canada on the hat that I can see. Just an oddball I suppose.

A petting hat to be sure, Brent. Love that colour. Looks good on you too in the head shot photos you posted.

Just snapped this one up on the Bay.
Did I do good?
I like it! Looks like it’s in mint condition and one of them good ones.
I don’t know much about Borsas.
Also, if you look at the photos, is this a suede finish? Hope it is . I don’t have any. If not, I aim to sew 7/8 contrasting silver binding around the brim to bring this already nice lid to the top of the food chain. Or would it be okay to do on a suede hat? I wouldn’t think so, but y’all would know better than I.

Yep, that’s one of the good ones! I’m still waiting for a Marque Grand Luxe in my size. Congratulations!

Wooooow! I’ve only recently purchased three of these Italian hats, so I don’t know much about Borsas, but I know a killer lid when I see one!
Score!!!!!

It is a short velour finish (not sure what it’s true name is). I don’t think you need to gild this lily; the binding wouldn’t look right to my eye. I’d just enjoy it the way it is.

No...not good...great...super great.
A cross between a chinchilla and a horse’s nose felt!
Outstanding.

Congrats, Randall! That's a great score, certainly at that price. Those Marque Grand Luxe (the Italians would say "Gran Lusso") hats usually have somewhat shorter brims, but this one seems to have a generous sized one. They do have suede or long hair finishes. I think you're going to like this one.
