Super Trionfo?

I am mostly a Stetson guy, but I saw this Borsa in a stack of three for sale and couldn't pass it up. Has anyone come across a Super Trionfo? Running numerous internet and FL site searches hasn't resulted in anything definitive, making the hat that much more interesting!

I did post about this hat once before, but I think the note got buried pretty quickly :)

Very nice find, Daniel. Haven't seen a Super Trionfo before. Trionfo was a Borsalino production line, like Ardilla and Augusta. Looks like a chamois/suede finish on the hat. The "Super" designation may have a relation with that. The hat looks like it's early to mid-sixties. Rutenio is the colour and asfalto refers to the colour of the ribbon. The c. stands for cinta, meaning belt or ribbon.

I'm humbled to be waiting for something very special. 1890s Borsalino. This came from a collection of carriages and accessories for coaches and travel. The hat and the hat box was originally sold together at an auction in London during the 1980s.

I don't recall ever seeing one like this. The Borsalino logo on the sweatband is larger and missing "Grand Prix Paris 1900".

The liner logo was used in the German market around 1950-1960s. I believe it was reused from this time period.

I’m not familiar with the tags this seller is showing me. He has no idea of the size and the “22” has me confused. Is it 22 inches inside diameter?

Any help will be appreciated.

In my defense, the photos don’t make the orientation clear, but I’m now 90% sure the bow is on the right (said sheepishly). Too bad, I like the color a lot.

That should not hold you back. I've had ladies hats too and it's easy enough to loosen the ribbon and turn it over to the other side. The size of 22 inches would be more of a problem for you I guess.

More work by Fleur de Huu of Penumbra Hat co. (maybe you should contact her, Brent). I bought a Borsalino Nutria Opale last year, which was a must have. But the brim binding was a bit grimy. So I asked Fleur if she could replace it, which she did. She does so by hand and the hat looks like new again.

Before:
borsalino homburg opale_02.jpg
borsalino homburg opale_03.jpg
borsalino homburg opale_06.jpg

During (colour choices; there were about six or seven choices, but we narrowed it down to these three):

borsalino nutria_4.jpg
borsalino nutria_5.jpg
borsalino nutria_6.jpg

After (ribbon three was the safe choice):

She's not a full time hatter (yet), but check out her work at:

22, 24, it’s all the same right? The fact that it was originally a ladies hat wouldn’t bother me a bit. Maybe a hydraulic hat stretcher?

I've been getting more and more reluctant using my hat stretcher(s). Other than giving a hat a little nudge in the right direction I find it doesn't do the hat any good trying to stretch it up more than half a size maximum.
