We're on a mission from Gawd!

A few years back I had the opportunity, albeit out of my profession at the time, to do some photo double work for a TV comedy special that was highlighting the return of the Blues Brothers - this time with John Goodman, Danny Aykroyd and (briefly) Jim Belushi. We had to shoot this sequence where the Blues Bros., in the Blues Mobile, were having trouble getting to the gig. Well, due to cost constraints, and scheduling, and insurance bonds, the guys couldn't/wouldn't do the sequence. I, being of a Belushiesque stature at the time (I've moved more into the Goodman mold since) was enlisted, nay, drafted into participating in the shoot - mainly because I fit the suit, I believe. So, we were shooting up at Universal City Walk, L.A. at sunrise and, with a stunt driver at the wheel, we TORE up and down the piazza de Universal in the Blues Mobile! And, it was quite fun - that is until the director decided he wanted some high speed skids! Now, the stunt driver turns to me and says "Sit behind me". So, I get in the car behind him as he wraps a belt around the old fashioned Emergency Brake Release and hands it over the seat to me saying "Whatever you do, if you don't want us to die a horrific firey death, taking an entire theme park and a good part of the San Fernando Valley with us, DO NOT let go of that belt!" With that, he slams the mid-70's 'A' Body Chrysler product into drive and - MAN - what a ride! What he did was use the emergency brake pedal as the lever to FLING the car around in bootleggers turns, twists, high-speed skids and any number of life churning maneuvers all about what, in a matter of hours, would be populated with the UN of tourists! And, through out it all, I never let go of the gawd-damn belt!

Years later, I still have the suit - and the scar on my hand from where the belt cut. Ask me, I'll show ya' sometime.

Yes, oh dear Lord yes! It's one of the best movies of all time. I think it should be the #1 of the topm movies of all time. It's extra Cool because it's in Chicago, also the #1 city in the world and other worlds.

I was never into it until I dated a girl from Illinois. She got me hooked.

But yes, the music is great. The film is really good fun and I always find Murph and the Magictones make me grin stupidly. I don't know why. I guess I'm just odd!

Good lord no but I'd hazard a guess and say....a lot! lol I did read somewhere that the film holds the record for having the largest amount of wrecked cars.

As for the Blues Brothers, I love the music in that one. Aretha Franklin is amazing.

As a lifelong soul and R&B fan I have to say much of the music was a little disappointing, even with a band of musicians that included Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn and Willie Hall. The tracks featuring Jake and Elwood were a little too clean, with the band trying too hard to make up for the vocal limitations of the actors (and I know Cropper is quoted as saying that Belushi was a better singer than many that he had worked with in the past, but he still wasn't all that...)

Having said that Ray Charles' Shake A Tail Feather, Aretha's Respect and John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom were thrilling pieces of music.

I suspect that's why I liked it because I'm really not a fan, therefore am largely ignorant of what constitutes a 'good' R&B number. I just found the soundtrack pleasing. I'm a simple soul really!

Oh it's great as good-time party music, but I kept finding myself thinking "So-and-so did this so much better..." Too much of a music snob, that's my problem.

But I do love the soundtrack to Animal House. Very raw, and it has one of the best ever versions of Shout.

Gosh, I remember seeing that at the cinema when it was first released but I can't say that the soundtrack was that memorable for me. Unlike Lemon Popsicle, which I immediately bought on lemon yellow vinyl!

I never saw Lemon Popsicle, but I like the sound of the lemon yellow vinyl soundtrack album though.

Did anyone ever see the movie Shag with Bridget Fonda and Phoebe Cates. It was American Graffitti with girls and it had my favourite soundtrack ever. Unfortunately the OST album didn't include any of the classic soul and R&B tracks that were in the film. I managed to find the trailer for it here and I've just ordered a copy of the DVD...
