Oh there's a port on a western bay,
sailing ships from far away,

the sailors said; Brandy, you're a fine girl, fine, what a good wife you would be, such a fine. but my heart,y soul and my lady is the sea, is the sea, is the sea.lol

Today I saw somebody
who looked like you do
she walked like you do
I thought it was you
as she turned the corner
I called out your name
I felt so ashamed, knowing it wasn't it you.
and I doooooo ooooooooo oooo

Ah, Wild Cherry. :p

When they were...
Dancin' and singin'
and movin' to the groovin'
And just when it hit me somebody turned around and shouted
Play that funky music white boy
Play that funky music right
Play that funky music white boy
Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till you die
Till you die,
oh till you die

They shouted play that funky music
Play that funky music
Play that funky music
Gotta keep on playin'
funky music
Play that funky music

Regards,

J

Had this one playing in my head tha last few days... don't worry, I'm OK. ;)

Sunday is gloomy, my hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows I live with are numberless
Little white flowers will never awaken you
Not where the black coach of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thought of ever returning you
Would they be angry if I thought of joining you?

Gloomy Sunday

Gloomy is Sunday, with shadows I spend it all
My heart and I have decided to end it all
Soon there'll be candles and prayers that are sad I know
Let them not weep let them know that I'm glad to go
Death is no dream for in death I'm caressing you
With the last breath of my soul I'll be blessing you

Gloomy Sunday

I've been listening to a fair amount of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy recently. "Simple Songs" is stuck in my head most of the time:

I said those Simple songs about simple things
Is what makes my baby swing
She's got eyes like an angel. Smiles like a devil
Lord you know she’s the real thing

So when my baby's not around
The whole world hears my poor heart pound
Singing “Lord you know she’s the one for me”

An Angel Singing...

I keep hearing an angel singing in my ear. Her name is Karen Carpenter and the song is 'Top Of the World'.

Everytime I hear one of her old songs I'm reminded of what a unique, clear and angelic voice she had while she was here. How lucky we all are that all these years later we can still hear her voice long after she has left us. Lovely!

Hawkins was possibly the most disturbing performer I have ever witnessed! He had to have been the first shock-rock performer?! I thought that I was going into a Kansas City blues bar in the early '60's to hear a bluesman -- but when the show began, and Hawkins climbed up out of a coffin placed just off centerstage wearing red leather tights and a leopard-skin with a cape and holding his cigarette-smoking hoodoo-skull-on-a-stick that he named "Henry" -- grunting and moaning and yelling "I Put A Spell On You" -- I was ready to catch the first thing smokin' outta that low dive! I mean such wild-act performers as Howlin' Wolf and Guitar Slim seemed like pretty tame choirboys compared to Hawkins! Later, Hawkins performed such popular eclectic favorites as "Feast of the Mau Mau" and "Constipation Blues"... :D

I observed that it was all just an act but the general consensus of most of the first-time taproom patrons was that he was positively demented! :D Before he passed away a few years ago -- Hawkins in an interview told the reporter that he never went into a recording studio to cut a record unless he himself, the musicians, the A&R man, and the sound engineer were inebriated?!

To me, I would agree that the most frequently recurring head-melodies are "Small World," "Hey Jude," and that little ditty by these guys (if you were around)...

Screaming Jay was definitely in a class by himself. :p

I put a spell on you
’cause you’re mine

You better stop the things you do
I ain’t lyin’
No I ain’t lyin’

You know I can’t stand it
You’re runnin’ around
You know better daddy
I can’t stand it cause you put me down

I put a spell on you
Because you’re mine
You’re mine

I love ya
I love you
I love you
I love you anyhow
And I don’t care
If you don’t want me
I’m yours right now

You hear me
I put a spell on you
Because you’re mine

:D

MysteryGal, that's "Venus," originally performed by Shocking Blue, and covered in the '80s by Bananarama... or The Bangles... or The Go-Gos. I can't tell 'em apart. lol
that's it! it's what happens when you set your alarm to the radio...usually always, when I wake to a song it's stuck for awhile. The one that was playing was by bananarama. Interesting how none of those girl bands really lasted all that long. Although the go-go's music have always seemed annoying to me

...I’m as mellow as a cello, but I want to know:
How come my cello don't play for you?
It needs to play or it gets blue.
If I don't play a song a day
Might as well throw the thing away.
