Terms Which Have Disappeared

We say roll down the window even though it is a switch not a crank. Switch down the window just sounds wrong.

"Lolly gag". Every baseball coach I ever had used that term. But I never hear it today.

"Gumption". My grandmother used it all the time. Of course, it was usually in conjunction with some other "colorful" description of someone she found to be lacking in a character.

"Jake leg" or just "jake".

I say "Quit Lolly gagging!" all the time

I suppose we could simply say, "Open the window," or "Close the window," both of which would be applicable regardless of the method used.

Alternately, you could have looked at the window and said something like, "Window, you're so fat that when you sit around the house, you sit around the house."
