I have only just caught up with this thread. I sported a full beard for years - from my teens in fact. This was primarily due to the fact that having somewhat sensitive facial skin meant that for years no matter what method of shaving I tried I would often be left with rashes and soreness. Also being on the hirsute side meant not only could I grow beards quickly and easily but if I shaved in the morning I could have a five o'clock shadow by early lunchtime so it was just easier to let the beard grow and trim as and when required.

I never found having a beard a barrier to relationships as I prefer people take me as they find me, indeed having met and married my wife while sporting a beard she says she dislikes me not having facial hair of some sort!

For the past couple of years after finding that I can in fact now wet shave and get away with it I have sported a handlebar moustache ...and have to say I rather like the attention it generates.

Men with facial hair is a big yuck for me. I dated one guy with a mustache and never again. I like the clean shaven look, and as I tell my husband (who's facial hair is clear, although he's got dark hair, who keeps trying to insist he can grow a beard ala Riker) "I shave my legs, so you can shave your face."

Sideburns, like Jovan's, look alright on some men (like Jovan). Very few men look attractive with facial hair, to me, but those that do, don't expect me to kiss you anytime in the next century or so. Nice to look at, but that's about it.

Elaina,

I think many women feel the same way you do. It makes me wonder why so many women wanted to kiss guys like Clark Gable!

Thanks. :) My burnies used to be down to my jawline, if you want some funny trivia. Then I cut them short for a while. Then I did the Trek burns (points). Now I'm doing this again for the hell of it.

As I'm waiting on a new job to start, I'm growing a "rally beard". Only phone interviews, so until it's time to go into the office I'm not going to shave . (I'm trimming though)

I'll take a pic before it goes away. :D

Gotta keep mine

I know I haven't gotten around to it yet, and I one day I'll scare the bejesus out of everyone by posting a picture of my old mug - but I sport a full moustache. I do trim the beast, no moustache wax to curl it up and I hate it when it's too far over my upper lip. I believe in a FULL "stash. If you're going to grow one, well grow the damn thing! No silly trimming.

I like facial hair, and I especially like big sideburns. Facial hair seems to gross some women out or they find it uncomfortable but I am all for it and find it extremely sexy... on the right man of course.:)

Being the 18th century gunsmith of German extraction, I once wore a mustache befitting this persona. Problem was, when rifle shooting, the right side would get mushed up, while the left side still looked fine. Didn't wear it long. Here's me a few years ago, probably about 2000. Also showing me in the process of making the attempt at growing long hair. Couldn't stand that either.

Yes!!! Don't you just love moustache wax??? :p :p

I finally have grown back my larger curled handles of my moustache like they were before the februrary trim.
And am i ever glad!!! I get more compliments and smiles than i had ever received when a smooth faced, look like everyone else does lad.
I feel the well groomed handlebar gives character to a mans face. And being a devotee of the past century and it's predecessor,i like the look.

This weekend i had a young girl, maybe 8 or 9,come up to me at a convention i was attending, saying:I love your Monopoly moustache!"She giggled and fluttered away.
Now that was sweet!! I really enjoyed it.
And my wife loves it!
So who said girls and women don't like the big handlebar moustache lol :p

Here is a bad photo of the outfit from last week.

Looks good, moustache. It gives your face alot of character. I just shaved mine off this weekend. BTW, what is the purpose of moustache wax? I've never used it before.

BTW Cgab,i think your moustache looked delightful and dashing.Reminded me of the smasher that Omar Shariff wore in "Lawrence of Arabia".You should give another try!!!
The wax holds the ends together and keeps them from drooping. Also to give shape to facial hair.I know some who use it on beards even,But mainly it is for moustaches.Try this link:

And for some smashing handlebars, try this:

Without moustache wax getting those nice curls on the tips of the moustache, or even getting it to grow horizontally instead of vertically during the initial phase, would be very hard and would include extremely much work with the aid of some sort of heated curling iron apparatus.

With moustache wax you comb it into the moustache, fix it up like you want and it stays nice for the entire day.

moustache, if I may ask, what wax do you use? I'm currently trying on the neutral Clubman wax which is by far better than others I've tried in the past. It's easy to work with and gives both a nice stickyness during the shaping phase and a nice hold throughout the day. Not to mention it smells really nice which at least for me is imperative.

Thanks, Moustache. It's funny - when I was younger I grew my moustache to look older (I was only 20 years old in those photos ) , now I shave it to look younger! It has too many gray hairs and I don't like dyes.
