Funny that I chose to make this my first post (outside of my introduction). I will agree that the subject of beards and moustaches is very polarizing. I find that most women do not like beards but can accept a moustache. I know this is a generalization...but it is just my experience.

As you will notice from my signature, I am a member of the Midwest Beard and Moustache Club - ok, I am actually the founder - that is how passionate I am about beards and moustaches! :p

I have gone through many styles and iterations over the last few years.

I do not have a weak chin or a poor complexion - I simply grow my beard because I really like the way it looks - I do it for me and for no one else. It is truly one of the only selfish things I have ever done...and that can't be too bad.

Thank you to everyone for sharing their photos, opinions, likes and dislikes for facial hair. I always love hearing how people feel about this subject.

Warm regards,

Matt

You're in good company on the beard.

Also on the SAA clone. Are you a Cowboy Action Shooter or was that just for the photo?

Hi Carebear,

Thanks for the kind words. I am indeed a CAS. I am a member of SASS. I volunteer as a living history reenactor at a place called Cowtown. That was my Ruger Vaquero in the photo.

Red Beard

I absolutly love a red beard on a man. The hair on his head does not have to be red but the red beard really catches my eye. I like either beards or moustaches. My dad has had a moustache my whole life. Unfuntunitly my husband can not grow a full beard or moustache. He can go 3 days before he has to shave.

Well, this is fun... so why not...

The first picture is from a Ren Faire, wherein I played the leading villain (Bay Area Renaissance Festival in Tampa, Florida, for anyone in the area.) 2004. I was shortly out of the USMC and was revelling in growing a moustache/goatee. And it worked for the acting part, too. ;) (oh, and it's a good hat!)

The second is more recent, and due to now being a Police Officer. I can have a moustache, but no goatee, and I'm not fond of the single "copstache" look.

Well now, that's rather compelling. It seems that I'll have to indulge you!

I managed to find a pic of me with just the moustache (which I had for a brief period of time before -really- just deciding I didn't like it.) Oddly enough, it's one of the only pics of me in my current uniform. Oh, and I'm wearing my glasses.

This picture is another, sans moustache, but with glasses.

I hope that helps! ;)

Yes, it helps, thank you! You simply can't take a bad picture, can you? Even the copstache looks good, and that is normally a look I don't care for on most men. :)
Ashley

I appreciate your kind words.

Now I have to stop blushing before heading out to run errands...

OK, you guys have got me going. I'm restarting my old William Powell stash again. Shaving the top half of my lip, and leaving the bottom. 3 weeks to get it established, 6 weeks to perfection. I'll keep you posted.

Here's my William Powell, a little thicker than his, though.

Hmm... many of these pics are now missing or moved. To me, from what I see it seems that most guys out there in the general public are not that into wanting to do the WORK and UPKEEP to keep a beard or moustache looking tidy and well groomed. That said, this does NOT seem to be the case of the gents here on the Lounge. Yes, those here are indeed a different bunch... thankfully!

My hubby has had the slightly Ren Faire look moustache and beard and it looked really good for Victorian dance events we went to. He has had a moustache on and off for all the years we've been together. Since we've gotten more connected with vintage garb and events and the Art Deco folks, many of the men in this circle sport the Golden Era movie pencil. I and some of his fellow deco gents encouraged him to try it. It really looks good on him, so even though it requires more upkeep he's okay with that.

I of course have loved old movies forever- so a clean shaven or pencil moustached man looks super to me!

Golden era stars; William Powell, David Niven, Tyrone Power, Cary Grant, Howard Keel, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, YES!

Stubble? BORRRING- done to death. How uninspired! I even thought Hugh Jackman looked fabulous in "Australia" in the scene where he shows up at the dance in the dinner jacket clean shaven- serious SWOON. Yes, I like even HIM clean shaven!

Modern stars; give me a clean shaven Pierce Brosnan, Hugh Jackman or Ralph Fiennes anyday.

Interesting post to revive, I didn't even know it existed.

I vote "no" on all facial hair with the very limited exceptions of moderate sideburns and a william powell mustache.

It generally just looks so much more polished if a man has a clean shaven look. Of course, I live in Portland, OR and the bearded population is growing ... literally ... every day. I'm sick and tired of looking at, well groomed or not!!

My husband wears a goatee. I love goatees on most men. I think the Tony Stark goatee made Robert Downey Jr even more handsome. I can't stand a full beard or a mustache by itself. As for clean shaven, it really depends on the man. My husband shaves everything off every 5 years or so just to see what's under there. He has a weak jawline and just doesn't look the same without the goatee. My brother-in-law likes to experiment with facial hair. He's done the soul patch, chin buddy, various configurations of goatee, Van Dyke, ect. He manages to pull them all off.

I hate it when my fiancé doesn't shave! I love a smooth face - his lips are so much more kissable without hair, too.

In general I don't like it because it tends to scratch, but some men's faces need it. It can look great if you have the face for it, and it's well groomed.

My older brother used to wear a full beard and mutton chops. He looked ridiculous - not to mention how he used to find old crumbs in it from time to time.

I like men with facial hair and without facial hair. In this series of photos I like Sean Connery's look in all of them.

This lady likes her man with a smooth face. Some fellows are suited to whiskers (never been a full beard fan though), and a pencil-thin moustache, done right, is ever so dapper. Though it's a fine fine line between impeccable gent and sleazy porn guy. ;)
Oddly though, many of my favorite pics of my Mr. are of when he had some sort of facial hair. Isn't that odd? But to touch and kiss, I like it smooth.
