I picked up this 70s Botta stingy long hair fedora in Zürich. Dreispitz found that Botta was out of Salorino (near Como, Italy), Switzerland (1902-1998). This hat is very similar to what Barbisio, Borsalino and Panizza were putting out at that time. It would be interesting to see some of their older hats.

(By the way I ran across a bunch of very small size vintage (some 1930s or older ones) hats from Swiss companies. I should have taken pictures for documentation purposes. Hopefully some more Swiss made hats will show up here. I am now on the look out.

I found it at a vintage shop called Lux Plus. There are a bunch of vintage shops in Zürich. This link has a list.

Brim is 1 3/4", crown 5".125g. Age guess is late 60's to 70's, but not much to go on other than instinct. The felt quality is high, on par with my P. & C. Habig Wien Velour of similar vintage. The Botta has a slightly shorter shorn nap, but other than that I can't tell the difference between the two just by feel.
A new lid, and a new nation represented on my hat rack!

I'll admit I thought that Botta was an Italian brand. I have run into the occasional hat by them (none in the collection though). Seem well made hats, like this one. Cool.

Thanks Stefan! It has been a summer suited for velours and felts in general here, with lots of coastal fog. Barely got to wear straw.

Very nice, Moe. Those "gamsbart" brushes can sell for over $100. The pins and brushes could be worth more than the hat itself... but that velour looks sweet!

Found on eBay. I was waffling for a few days over whether I needed another black bowler when it went on sale at 30 percent off, so I just had to. Plus, Swiss hats don't pop up all that often.
National Extra quality by Hochstrasser Waedenswil.

The sweat looks reeded, but is an odd type that has no fabric tape behind the sweat, just the edge. Only other one I've seen is on my French Maximes mystery hat.

The liner is a beauty. Reminds me of a tuxedo shirt.

And a head shot. Fits nice!

It has a 5" crown and a 2" brim. 156g. The felt is in great shape, only one little dimple ro steam out. Feels like there may be wool in the blend as it has a somewhat coarse hand compared to some of my other bowlers. The sweat is a little dry, made me a bit nervous to turn it down for the pic. It survived unscathed (I hope) and should respond well to a Lexol-ing. Otherwise it has very little wear.
My thought on it's age is 30's. As always, all input to confirm or refute that assertion is welcome.

I saw so many of these hats at the Matterhorn. Not my style, but very nice.
