The Stratoliner is a way cool hat, but also a very neat plane in its time. Here is a great picture of the cockpit in a Boeing Stratoliner.

It made an interesting yacht too. (Out of Howard Hughes old Stratoliner)

HEY! I have a Stetson Bantam. It's a great fedora -- looks like a cross between a Whippet and an Open Road. Very lightweight, too.

I have a Bantam around here some place as well. Unfortunately it is a 7 1/4 or smaller. They are great lightweight hats. Is yours gray as well?

So how does that nice hat fit in the teeny box?

Believe me it fits. You have to roll the sides of the brim up so it does though. Kind of makes the hat look strange after a while in the box though.
Gee, I am actually heartened that this thread got resurected. I had given up on it at the beginning in January.

I have a Bantam around here some place as well. Unfortunately it is a 7 1/4 or smaller. They are great lightweight hats. Is yours gray as well?

I finally got one but...

I finally got my hands on a mint Stratoliner, but it was too small. Nice Silver Belly, but alas. I have my eyes on another the should fit, but it's a grey. I wish the SB would've fit. You guys are right! I took your advice in getting one, and the felt is out of this world! Is there anywhere to get a felt that nice these days?

I remember that news. I think there is a thread here somewhere on the Lounge. Whatever the case, some very good information on the last of a breed.
At $12,000 a flight, per person, it is no wonder that the Stratoliner did not last very long. That and WWII ended their production. The government even used a few during the war to ferry people around. Gee, I would have liked to gotten that kind of free ride.

They probably ripped out the seats and replaced them with benches.
