Stocking with Wedges

Hi ladies!

I just bought a pair of ReMix's pleated toe wedges and soooo recommend them! Hubby and I are going to a USO dance next month and I'd like to wear them as they are very danceable, but also want to wear my seamed stockings.

Can I wear seamed stockings with wedges, or is it an either or proposition?

August 11th

The dance is August 11th... http://www.1941hag.org/calendar.html There is also a historic airshow this weekend.

The USO dance has never been advertised well and therefore has been a bit sparsely attended, but for the members of the 1941 historic airplanes club. We still really enjoy it... I get to put on my dancing dress and I'm the youngest lady in the crowd! What more could I ask for!

My avatar is from the dance last year.

We'll be there

:eek:fftopic:
I'll be at the airshow, probably bright and early on Saturday. If you are going, look for me...I'll be wearing a bright green dress.

I usually wear wedges and whenever I wear stockings with them (which is most of the time), they look great. I do prefer wearing them with regular high heels, but wedges are more comfortable for me in the long run.

I am going to a reception in NYC tomorrow night and I have a fab dress to wear. I would love to wear some seamed stockings with it but since I will be standing quite a bit I wanted to wear wedges and was unsure of it was done.. I googled and Voila! Should have known I would find the answer here.

I often wondered if ladies wore stockings with peeptoe shoes (meant to ask you ladies about this for ages!) but the other week I was watching a film noir - think it was Scarlet Street - and I noticed that the leading lady when she took of her peeptoe shoes was wearing stockings. Nowadays stockings with peeptoes or sandals seems to be frowned upon. I know Marie Claire have a range of tights for wearing with sandals - but what I wanted to ask you ladies is -

Would you wear stockings/tights (whatever is your preference) with sandals/peeptoes?

I've had to re-train my brain a little bit regarding stockings and peep-toes! According to modern standards it's definitely a no-no to show your toes in stockings/tights, but obviously back in the day they did it happily. My personal rule is that I'd happily wear peep toe heels/wedges with stockings, but not sandals with only say a strap over the top of the foot. However, I would wear sandals like that with little bobby socks!

Also back then the peep toe was just that. A very tiny opening at the front of the shoe for ventilation not actually showing the toes. Now 'peep' toes are 'come and look as my whole front foot comes out of my shoe because this opening is stupidly big' toes, yuck.

I love the peeptoes that have the tiny opening as I don't really like feet too much - the small opening is a happy compromise. Hard to find a pair with the tiny opening and not as LD says "'come and look as my whole front foot comes out of my shoe because this opening is stupidly big' toes, yuck".

The "no stockings with open-toe shoes" thing is pretty recent, I think -- when I was growing up, you wore hosiery with any type of dress shoe. Bare legs were strictly casual -- you'd never see bare legs or bare toes in the workplace or a formal occasion. If you wore sandals with a formal dress, for example, you wore "sandalfoot" stockings, which had no reinforcement over the toes.

Thank you - that's what I was trying to convey earlier about the Marie Claire hosiery. I have seen girls here wearing what I would call Granny type hosiery (too tan, no sheen (although I hate too shiny tights) and mega reinforcement in the toes with sandals and it looks bad.

I was also thinking about peeptoes in Winter with hosiery - with fishnets and opaques you can get away with it easier.

I once bought toe-less hose to wear to an event, and it literally has the toe bit cut off but a strappy bit goes between your large and your second toe, sort of like a flip flop. They were so weird and uncomfortable, I never wore them. I still have them though not sure why, in case I ever need them[huh]. It just felt like I had a humongous hole in my sock.

I personally don't wear sandals with hosiery, but to each their own. The thing Miss Golightly described does indeed look terrible, so if I wear stockings I wear closed toe shoes.
