the zipper Was Thick with Years of Gunk and was installed too close to the seam and The pull Really Rubbed the Leather and scuffed it like I said. It was the More technical Job but actually when done properly is the more satisfying Part of the work. Here you can see there are two Sides to the shell, and they are Double-ply, The trick is to Guide the needle through one pair of holes at a time, and flipping the zipper keeping the holes Lined up is also Important. Start with the zipper done up, and go from the bottom to the top, having Secured it in place with a good amount of pins to hold it. I studied the zipper tape to find the correct point of placement wich you can see Im indicating by pointing to it with the needle. this is the straight line to keep you in check all the way up making it easier to follow.

Before anything I WASHED the Replacement YKK zipper by hand quickly using some dish soap and then polished it with a little brasso, really important to do this, it was also goobered up and stinky as the liner, which is still to be washed by hand. Its not an original type ZIP but Looks the part close enough.

Ok, so you can see the pics and I did my best to illustrate it step-by-step to get the general idea, if your working and pushing the needle too hard youre not doing something right. It should be easy and steady work when done with confidence.

I think I re-loaded the needle once per side of the zip. (about 6 feet of doubled up thread)

ghetto but IF its working, its good enough.

Hell, better than the last Guy who Just slammed in the replacement zip and went full-speed ahead without giving a toot.

My heart is broken along with my Authentic Glasses, FLying, Sun Chromed Lenses I used to have (and cant find ANYWHERE) But they were what I religeously wore with this jacket, I kept them, they had amazing polarized lenses, and are a lot better then the counterfeit ones in the little black plastic soft cases with the AAF logo on them, a lot heftier for sure! these Ruby lens shooters are ok, they are 80s made by RUKO and I cant find them either, they were NOS from the Smith Army surplus in Kingston, and the supply is long gone. Someone found them in the back corner of a warehouse in NY I was told. Looking back I regret not getting a second pair for only 19.95!!! cant beat that!

If you have a pair of original cable GLASSES,FLYING,SUN (not the newer counterfeit ones) for sale please contact me, I need a spare lens cut if you know where I can get that done please please please!!!!!! That is something I am really upset about. I will pay what youre asking no questions asked!!! I absolutely LOVED those glasses and cant find them anywhere. Mine were silver frame, with chrome lenses.

another note is this is a SIZE 40 G-1, Its sat un-used for a few years, and unfortunately so have I (LOL) its snug and I can just get into it now, time to Drop 20 pounds, Larry said he knows what I mean, his theory is that the Jackets may shrink somewhat over time when stored in a dark closet, I quite Agree.

UPDATE: Im currently trying to find the Member here who Mailed me a pair of EASTMAN M422A Cuffs for this Jacket, and allowed me to pay it forward with a donation to the Sally Anne, seems my Old messages and conversations are deleted. I forget who you are now!

Well, I finally used them for my Latest G-1 (1950s Cagleco sportswear G-1) and they are better than good. I cant believe it! Its phenomenal! Thank you so much! At long last!

I'll take some pics in the next day or so of how to sew the cuffs to the sleeve & attach the liner at the same time. Will greatly speed up the time/quality of the repair. same principle will work with the waistband also.

I bought a couple of 60's G-1s last year. Very good condition, but knits pretty much shredded. They both look brown in daylight, but washed out olive in artificial light. I really like them.
I tried MASH Japan and got some single ply replacement knits for my Lost Worlds G-1 that were absolutely top notch, but the double-ply replacement knits for 60's onwards G-1s were great quality but too short; that is to say that when stitched into the jacket almost an inch of jacket length would be lost. MASH recommended a shop that does jacket repairs for their customers, and I looked at their website. All the G-1s they worked on with double-ply MASH knits have this problem; instead of the bottom of the knit coming out perpendicular to the leather tabs at the bottom of the front of the jacket, they curve away sharply upwards since they are all about an inch too short and are stretched at the tab to maximum tension to reach the length of the tab. They look like they'll give straight away. I was surprised because MASH has a good reputation, but I mailed them that their knits were inaccurate- too short- and returned the knits. They gave me a full refund. Since I live pretty close to MASH postage was no big thing.
But now I'm searching for replacement double-ply knits again!
I bought some from that eBay guy recommended earlier in this thread, but his waistband knits don't have enough tension; they are way too stretchy compared to originals (they look ok though).
Any other suggestions?
I'm at the point of just giving up and wearing them the way they are.

BTW, Dumpster Diver, loving that G-1! Is it a Brill Bros? I noticed that the foremost pocket seems to have been stitched on with less that perfect alignment. Love it. I have a 60's G-1 like that. It'd be totally unacceptable on a $1000 repro, but for a couple of hundred bucks on the real thing, it's a great detail.

BTW, the lounge is so buggy these days I can hardly be bothered to post.
