Stetson Sweat Stamps/ LOT XXXX

Frays seem to date from the first two decades of the 20th Century. LOT 1XXX would be earlier than 1920 I think. It's a great find. Was curious if it had a small round or larger scalloped size sticker.

Could this be where it was?
Also, what does the 2 1/8 Soft refer to?

Yep - that is the original size sticker using the older scalloped label. It's still there and almost readable (7 3/8?). The 2 1/8 is the width of the sweatband. I believe soft refers to a soft hat rather than a stiff hat (derby). You will also find the word "stiff" on some. I am quite sure your hat is 100 years old. The Fray sweatband should have another 100 years in it. They were remarkably durable.

Be sure to add it to the Fray thread. It's an exclusive club!

Thanks for all the help, Alan.
The sweat is in nice shape, so as long as I don't wear it sweating in the shop, I think it will be OK. Funny thing, if you never pointed me to the sweat size label, I would have never noticed. Thanks again.
These old Stetsons are something else.

I believe that the store that sold this hat originally closed in 1914.

This is fantastic, Tonio... thanks for adding it. With some high numbers posted from early hats, there is evidence to suggest that the numbers turned over from LOT9XXX to LOT0XXX sometime in the first decade of the 20th century.
