Stetson Open Road Cord...help

Hi I'm new around here. I opened up an old Stetson box that was my grandfather's and was looking at his Open Road and was trying to figure out how this chord works. I never noticed it before, it wraps around the crown of the hat and when you take it off it is connected to one side of the crown and then forms a sort of loop like a lasso. Can someone help a brother out with this ? I'm assuming this is a wind cord of sorts.

Yep, it is a windcord. Put it through your overcoat lapel button on windy days and the elements will not get the best of your Open Road.

Mine's too short, or else my neck is too long. Anyway, I don't have any buttons anywhere near the end of that coard....I still think you're suposed to hook it to you're gold hooped ear ring.

I used one for that purpose when working on a windy pier, the hat blew off; fortunately the cord was attached and saved it from going into the Atlantic.

I've actually used them maybe twice, but the hats never blew off anyway.

It did allow me to relax and not grab for my hat with every gust of wind, though.

handily designed in slip-knot style to be held pretty tight to the hat when not in use.

They're most useful in the wind for holding on hats that are a little bit too big.
