Josh, you certainly have stayed on top of this thread.

Have you been able to come to any conclusions from this info, other than determining and preserving the many different blocks that have been used?

With your knowledge of "all things Stetson" does this give you some insight that would not be obvious to the average hat wearer?

I think at one point you were hoping to match Block #s with photos to show the shape produced by each Block.
That would be quite a big undertaking seeing so many different #s.

Stetson used many different block numbers and profiles for their hats through the years and new ones keep popping up every day. One of my hopes is that one day a block will show up in an antique store or ebay with one of these block numbers on them. I know at one point Stetson was giving old blocks to their employees in the 20's to use as firewood, so that tells me that old blocks were permitted to leave the factory. Its my hope that not all of them have been burned through the years.

I have learned that some hats that we all know and love from Stetson used a particular block during their run. For example, the Stetson Playboy used a 123 block. That was "THE" playboy block, though through the years the crown height had changed. It appeared that the profile stayed the same on top. I have also learned that other blocks were made in varying crown heights, but similar profiles.

Its good info to collect because if there was ever a question as to the model name or type of Stetson hat that someone had, the block number could give a good insight into identifying that particular hat. Its just another tool in our toolbox for dating or identifying old Stetsons.
