Yep...I was a member of that forum for years(think I still am). One great thing about it was Ken Calder being very active on the Classic as well. Now that forum is lucky to get only a few posts a year. I don't even have it on my favorites anymore.

The Classic 20th group kind of died out when Aero stopped sponsoring it, I think that was around the time Ken 'retired'.
Paddy Middleton had a large input, I think he designed or at least had replicas made of those bomb tags. John Chapman was also on there I think(but dont take me to court on that:D) and I first heard about the FLounge there.
I was 'Johnny Frenchman', cant remember my passwords or anything and changed my email, was quite a good group with a good mix of interests.

Yep..you're right about how it died out. Plus the VLJ's new format was becoming very popular after Chris's closed the two earlier yahoo versions. Can't remember if JC was on the Classic..but I think he was on the VLJ forum from the beginning. I picked up one of Paddy's replica bomb tags from him before Aero started carrying them for awhile. After the newer setup of the VLJ..the Classic 20th seems kinda out dated. Yeah..I think I remember 'Johnny Frenchman'. Some of the old Classic members have moved on and haven't posted on the VLJ for years now. From time to time I wonder what happened to them. Do you remember the old Deja Vu forum run by Charles (ELC) HPA..?? which is now defunct as well.

Hi HD, no I dont remember the Deja Vu but do remember VLJ, that is probably where I heard of John Chapman rather than the Classic 20th. And something known as ACME Depot that had just about every detail about A2's you would want to know. All this before anyone, well Aero and Eastman over here , were making original maker replica jackets.
VLJ would not let me on for some reason so never joined, something to do with my eMail I think.
The Bomb tags were great reps but a bit too bulky for zip pulls, for me anyway, so ended up giving mine to someone who liked them for a display. I use pre war French coins on ball chains for my zippers as well as other little talismans. Think I may do a topic on that unless I can find one.
Can you remember what was special about Johnny Frenchmans(My) Aero A2? If you do don't tell, Ill post about it soon.;)

VLJ would not let me on for some reason so never joined, something to do with my eMail I think.

Acme Depot is still there - a great little resource.

I too had problems with registering at VLJ - they take a rather "snooty" stance to email addresses they deem to be unsuitable. I got on eventually, but then lost my password, and the site is incapable of successfully allowing a password reset. I'm sure we can live without each other!:rolleyes:

BTW, this thread is now veering WAY off topic :eeek:

Technically the 20th was owned by someone other than Aero, Aero never officially sponsored it. Ken was very busy on it and it then 'died' when Ken retired and VLJ took off.
It's still there, although dormant. Somehow, I ended up being moderator and part owner. Which is kind of moot since there are no posts there anymore.

Guys, I live in New York, and has experienced bad delivery from Aero twice now. They send out your jacket with Parcel Force, then transitioned to USPS here, but USPS always demands a payment of some sort up front at the point of delivery or it will say "address undeliverable", has anyone experienced this???? Now in the Sandy weekend, I don't know where my jacket is!

I've always had to pay the 'U.S. customs charge' up front upon delivery by the postman and sign for it. If not he returns it to the post office until the next day. I think after two tries..we must go to the post office to sign..pick it up..and pay customs.

I just picked up my Aero last week. Schenectady, New York. They attempted delivery, but I wasn't home so I picked it at the Post Office later that evening. All I had to do was sign for it. I held my breath, fully expecting some type of customs charge - but there wasn't any.

I see, so they sometimes charge and sometiems dont'. Not surprised. Thanks Grayland and Hoosier, I just want to make sure they didn't Return it to the sender already!! It's a Sunday, and a Hurricane Monday, so I think it should be fine.

I'm afraid customs charges are out of our control. As for 'undeliverable' I can only assume this would be the case if there was no one to available to sign for a jacket when they tried to make delivery? I'd hazard a guess that some of the misinformation might be to do with the hurricane hitting, and hopefully it'll work itself out in a couple of days, but do keep me posted and we'll do all we can to help track things down!

Can't blame Aero for delivery issues beyond their control. I sincerely hope that all of you New York guys survive what could be the storm of the century. I suspect that most everything is frozen in the NE US right now.

Cord is the traditional method to stop this from happening. It is used for two reasons in particular, the cord grain is running across the bottom, not up and down which makes it a strong choice. And the lining sagging is caused by the fact certain materials don't have a tight enough weave which is why it tends to hang down if there's a lining like tartan, whereas cotton drill won't and neither will cord.

Now that I have one with cotton drill it is my lining of choice. Yet whilst I probably wouldn't have noticed were it not for reading about it here, as you can see on these pictures the cotton drill on my jacket is sagging over the hem at the back towards the right

Its very unusual for it to do this, but you've proven me wrong! Is it a Long Half Belt? Or does it have additional length? It could be the weight of a heavy cotton drill lining if it is, but if you can bear to part with it for a few days, send it back to us and we'll fix it for you and send it straight back.

That's perfect Holly. Fyi, It's a 27.5" long regular 50s half belt. (To be clearer it is not the long halfbelt, it's a longer than usual 50s halfbelt).

It's actually not bothering me for now and I don't want to part with it yet. But if it's OK with you I would like to send it in for the treatment at some point in the not too distant future, so there'll probably be an email from me about that once it's too cold to wear it.

I have to chime in and say this is the first time I have read a thread start to finish I think. My respect for the company has now grown beyond the respect for the product. It's easy to read btw the lines, hard for any business owner to communicate to customers what it really takes to make an operation go. But passion for what you do and respect for the customer's intelligence is paramount, and Holly in HER remarks here, has shown both. Thank you. Keep it up!
