Fantastic, Binkie! It has been a source of considerable annoyance that I could not find dress shoes made in Australia, and McLouds say their custom shoes are made in Melbourne. Splendid, splendid.

Allen Edmonds Broadstreet

Will Allen Edmonds Broadstreets be considered vintage now that they discontinued and not mass produced? Also, does anyone know this history of the broadstreet? For example, when it was introduced.

I have four pairs of them plus one pair that does not fit (too wide.) I figure that will last me till I'm 80.

"Vintage" clothing used to refer to duds that were at least 30 years old. No longer. These days, 15 years old seems to be the starting point. Since the Broadstreets were discontinued fairly recently, they're not yet "vintage".

My latest Spectator purchase. They have been around since the 40s I believe or maybe they were just designed that way. Like all classics AE has to stuff around with perfection so now they will be nouveau vintage! lol

Now the details about the shoes. They do look like Broadstreets in every way. The obvious difference is that the 1992 spectators are tan calf. What you can't see is that the white calf on these is suede/nubuck and not smooth calfskin like the Broadstreets. The other difference is that the Broadstreets were made on Allen Edmonds widest #3 last. The 1992 spectators were made on the old #7 last which is narrower.



As a result of the purchase I will now have a spare pair of 10.5E tan & whites that will be appearing in the future on B&S.

AE Chili WINHALLS

One of the nicest of the newer AE designs and they never pop up in the Chili Weave in my size. Then yesterday I opened up a search and got them for USD129 BIN when new is USD329.

They have elements of some of the 1930s shoes in Marc C's collection with the banded strapping on the vamp.

I scored a pair of those Lauderdales....(don't go their Gene!) that were a bit knocked about.

After tarting them up they have been one of my most used pair of shoes. They are especially good for the smart casual look with the tie-less shirt and blazer combo...when semidressing up is the call.

They have a spacious wide last in "D" which is more like an "E" fitting. I get the admiring looks and complements which you get with a design that hits the spot in summer....then maybe its my ebullient personality and charm....

So cool. The perforations are interesting. Would you say they help keep your feet cooler? Can you feel a difference?

From my observation of the ventialted spectator what happens is that the foot instep movement actually acts like a bellows sucking in the fresh air as the old air from underfoot is expelled. Cool as a cucumber....in the summertime when the weather is fine...

Cookie, those shoes of yours are so rare, I can't even describe it. Even the lettering on the sole's logo is superb.

If they were a smaller size, you could just about name your price to a Japanese buyer.

Wear on Vintage Spectators

I swear a lot of vintage spectators were used so infrequently that they are barely worn - you can see this from the insides.

Maybe they are used for dancing a bit but it seems that a lot simply saw an occasional trip out and back to the cupboard.

Maybe it is the niche nature of the shoe.

Those wonderful Nettletons exemplify my point.
