Speaking of the Peters Bros 'Shady Oaks'.....

As i said its a very nice hat!!, and as far as provenance behind the hat, which Art or Steve can NOT provide. I guess it's all on what one is looking for in a hat....it's use, or it's use and the history behind it. I believe there is room for both collectors myself.

I could not agree more!! :)

Geez, $600 bucks for pure beaver!? I could make up a provenance and a history for the cost difference. :p
Beside that, I don't want to even go near a hat worn by LBJ. :p That and the Open Road style has much to be desired---in my opinion. Every one I have owned now sports a regular fedora block and ribbon.
Just me being honest. ;)

Regards to all,

J

Stetson 100 % pure beaver and vintage!!

I got the Stetson 100 pure beaver and no BS like one so called hatter I know. Boy now this nice pure beaver from 1950.

What ever he has to sell is always the best 1928 vintage the best , pure beaver the best. Plastic Milan straw is real is the best, Montecristi hats suck. Plus if you make it and don;t buy it from him you suck.

I still think a 1930's Vintage in a blend is the Ultimate hat :)

I may block it like the famous great Peters Bros. hat

Congrats! That's one beautiful Stetson, and in my size too! ;) Personally, I'd leave it as is, but then, that's just me. Once again, VERY nice buy!! High regards. Michaelson

Ahhhhh! No! Don't block a Stetson 100 into a cowboy hat configuration. I think it would look better with a C crown or a teardrop for sure. ;)

Regards to all,

J

Hey, Big man,
Could you send me some pics or send me to a link. I get confused on these hat block names unless it a Montecristi. :) :)

Open Road style has much to be desired? Hmmmm.... I am a great fan of that style as well as a few others here. Open Road is not exactly "in your face" western style - like what John Wayne, Roy Rogers, Tom Mix...etc wore on their horses. Open Road was a toned down version more for the western gentelman, businessman to wear around town. Granted it still speaks western. But there are number that wear that style today. I know here on this board there is myself, Matt Deckard, Fedoralover and Bogie1936 that have quite a few in their collection. I guess to each his own JP...

I am sure there are plenty of people out there who like the style or they would have stopped making them years ago. :p
It is just that I cannot stop myself from looking at the Open Road and thinking how much better the hat would look with a C crown or a teardrop---as I said---in my opinion. ;) No offense intended. :p
I have a few in my collection as well. They have all been reblocked but I have seen Open Roads that were given a different block than the center and two side dents---from the beginning of their lives.
Here is an ad for the Open Road from 1949:
