songs that make you shiver/cry

There are heaps of songs that get to me that I end up being misty eyed or all out crying. I'm a romantic kind of guy so I suppose that may have something to do with it? This isn't the entire list but its what I could think of right off the top of my head.

In My Life-The Beatles
Here, There And Everywhere-The Beatles
For No One-The Beatles
Bring It On Back-Jet
Pictures Of You-The Cure
Love Song-The Cure
I Want You To Want Me-Cheap Trick
The Flame-Cheap Trick
Raining In My Heart-Buddy Holly
It Doesn't Matter Anymore-Buddy Holly
Babydoll-The Fratellis
Nobody's Favourite-The Fratellis
Never Let Go-Tom Waits
Little Trip To Heaven-Tom Waits

And the song that always gets me the most is 'If I Have To Go' by Tom Waits. The lyrics from the song that get me the most are:

"Tell all the others you hold in your arms,
I said I'd come back for you"

Those lines have a very personal meaning for me. Anyways, I've probably made myself sound like a girl in this post so I'll go now, haha.

White Cliffs of Dover and We will Meet again make me sad because it makes me think of my grandparents, and Pretty Paper by Roy Orbison, I just can't help but feel sad when I hear that song and I am not sure why, it may just be the lyrics.

The song currently on my obsession list is Mary Lou Lord's version of 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. It's an "Urban Folk" tune that she used to sing in the subways of Boston. It's on her album "City Sounds Live". The line that really gets me is: "Said James, to Red Molly there ain't nothin' in this world, like a '52 Vincent and a red headed girl!"

I don't have feelings, but if I did, Sting has quite a few affecting songs:
"Shape of My Heart," used to great effect in "Leon: The Professional,"
"Fields of Gold," and a song that is very special to me, "It's Probably Me," from the "Lethal Weapon 2" soundtrack.

Also, "Bonnie Portmore," by Loreen McKinnitt, or however one spells it. "Dante's Prayer," as well.

Faure's "Pavane" the version by Brandford Marsalis with a chorus in place of the strings is so sublimely beautiful.

Mozart's Requiem gives me chills each time I hear it.

Oh, and Bach's Cello Suite #1, all that pathos in so short a piece. Brilliant.

Too bad you don't have feelings, just think of how long your list would be. ;)

Swan Lake moves me... Any deep, bellowing classical music. I enjoy hearing sharp notes as well. That 'off' sound beckons my ear.

There is a song by Pink Martini called 'Lullaby' that is extremely haunting. The singer hums the medley in a very ribbon like echo.

Also haunting in a very gothic way, is the beginning of Air's 'Don't Be Light'... So otherworldly.

Did I mention....

"Lonely Man" done by a British band called 'Splinter'. This one was written by the Beatles roadie Malcolm Evans after the Beatles split. Malcom
was killed in a shooting in 1976.

Yesterday I was listening to 'Umbrella' the accoustic version by Marié Digby. I can only listen to it at certain times... it reminds me of something.

I also adore Annie Lennox's Money Can't Buy It-- Takes me to another place entirely.

Without You

Well I can't forget this evening
And your face when you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes it shows.

Well I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrow
I had you there, then I let you go
And now it's only fair
That I should let you know
What you should know

I can't live, if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
I can't live, if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore

Well I can't forget this evening
And your face when you were leaving
But I guess that's just the way the story goes
You always smile
But in your eyes your sorrow shows
Yes it shows.

I can't live, if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
I can't live, if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give anymore
I can't live, if living is without you

I can't live, if living is without you

I can't live, I can't give anymore

Peter Ham

Yeah Pete Ham got the shaft, no cash! :(
Talented guitarist, played (Badfinger) backup band with George Harrison and all
at Concert for Bangladesh, oh you bring back memories with Harry Nillson,

****Bruder bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime,
His sister had anudder one she paid it for de lime.
She put de lime in de coconut, she drank 'em bot' up***

But Peter Ham was a tragic loss indeed. :(
