One Song that really gets me is "The Nearness of You" by Glenn Miller. I cry when I hear it because it reminds me of someone I had loved very much and is now no longer in my life.

It's funny, my younger brother HATES this song with a passion. We'll be sitting in the living room, and my phone will go off "see the tree, how big it's grown, but friend it hasn't been too long, it wasn't big" and my brother storms out of the room! haha.

Honey - The worst song of all time
'See the tree, how big it's' -- groan'

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/04/19/eye.ent.worstsong/index.html

I don't care what anybody sez it is my favorite song. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

It is a tender tale of a man who isn't even kind to his wife: He laughs when she slips, describes her as "kinda dumb and kinda smart" and mocks her for crying at the late show.

"One day while I was not at home / While she was there and all alone / The angels came ..."

And then there's her death. Even in 1968, what kind of jerk wouldn't be at his wife's bedside as she died?

I cried when I first heard it as a child, and still cry as an adult. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap It is so my favorite. :D

It's one of my favorites, even in its sadness. I guess it just reminds me so much of growing up, my dad always sang it as he'd be waking us for school in the morning, and now sings it in the morning as we're readying for work. Kinda funny how a song so sad can contain a happy memory or two because of the time and place...

"Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro was syrupy bad for sure.
Remember the song in the '70's "Rocky" by Austin Roberts? Maybe a close second?

That is so cool!!!! I downloaded it to my phone today. Could you imagine if we were in the same room at the same time and got the same phone call. It would be "Honey" in stereo. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

The guy I'm dating played "Mad Rush" by Phillip Glass for me the other day. Beautiful, beautiful song. And the way he spoke about it was even more beautiful! He said when he listens to it he imagines everyone in the world waking up at once, ready to accept whatever life gives them. I get shivers now when I listen to it.

This is part of it, it's much longer than 3 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1vMpkIRAjo&feature=related
