Sorry...you may not be familiar with the Highway of Heroes phenomenon. Here's an NBC news clip about it.

Sorry, Ladies and Gentlemen,

you may already know this song. Well, I did not and I just found it by accident on YT. I still have goose bumps!

Not a song but a slow air written by Irish master fiddler Tonmy Peoples called 'An Feochan' (The gentle breeze). It's played here by Altan's Frankie Kennedy, one of Ireland's finest flute players, who died in 1994 when he lost his battle against cancer.

This is by far the best rendition ever. Takes me right back to the Atlantic coast of Ireland when bright blazing rays of sunlight come breaking through the drifting clouds and set aflame the quicksilver sea and the burdened sky. Sigh...

Ahem...seems I got carried away a bit... ;)

Still: R.I.P. Frankie.

(It's a little sad but the video stops a few seconds before the tune actually ends)

Nick Cave - Into My Arms (lyrics alone make me weepy).
Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman
Pulp - Something Changed (our first dance song - again lyrics alone are enough to get me going)

Actually, do you know what, there are so many songs that make me shivery and weepy that I'm starting to wonder about my state of mind! :D

Long May You Run by Neil Young always gets a shiver. One of the great singer-songwriters...and a great hat, too.

I would like to add the finale of Puccini's Suor Angelica to the list. If I can find a video of the performance I just saw (might be able to link to the Sunday matinee), then you will see what I mean. Heart wrenching.

I love the Christmas holiday season but this song is always a reminder that there are a lot of people who aren't so lucky. Especially in these times.

John Prine singing Sam Stone. Powerful lyrics that paint a dark picture.
