Some like it hot-I don't...

Funny how that happens … :)
Lucky you. I'm sure it was all in the name of "quality control". Just testing for consistency between batches. ;-)

I am amazed that people from Northern hemisphere complain about 30 deg Celsius. It's quite normal for the summer. As long as it's under 40 deg it's quite bearable. In my country of origin (Romania) there is the temperate continental climate. From June to August the temperature is usually in the 30-40 deg range.
The rate of loss of heat is proportional to temperature difference, and a 7 degree difference between body temperature of 37C and ambient temperature of 30 will produce very slow heat loss.
25C is the limit of my comfort; 30C is NOT bearable for more than a few minutes at a time. And there is no way in which one can adjust one's thermal comfort in high temperatures by means of clothing - walking about naked would feel just as hot, and many find long sleeves and long (lightweight) trousers cooler than shorts and short-sleeved shirts as the skin is shielded from the sun. I accept that humidity is also a factor - that hot-wet is far worse than hot-dry.
But give me the cooler seasons when adding or subtracting layers is all that one needs for thermal comfort. I have experienced -25C in Norway and (probably because the weather was still and sunny) found that quite pleasant!

Yesterday in T.O. we broke a heat record, clipping the old one from 1998 - it was 32.1C and felt like 39C with the humidex …
The early evening TV news was on and unsurprisingly the heat was the headline story - and coincidentally to what I said yesterday, the reporter said that one very good place to beat the heat was at The Beer Store where the stock is kept at a constant 10C !
I'd guessed it was 8C, so I stand corrected. As said the man in orthopaedic shoes.

When the soles of your shoes
Wear thin from Summer's grin
Head to that old doctor
Don't ask for liquor or gin
If you're in need he'll show you his secret spot
Hidden in the back of the store, away from the heat
Where there's a fresh stash of beer for you
Even the sun can't beat

Ask nice and he'll give you ice
But don't ask for more than what you can fit in a sink
Cause the people in this withering town
All want something to drink

I love all three seasons, winter, spring and autumn, each for their own distinctive quality, colours, patterns of light, etc. But summer, especially high summer, is the one time of year I can't 'relate' to at all. I think of it as a dress rehearsal for Hell even though of course I don't believe Hell even exists! The negative qualities I would single out are the humidity, the harsh rather than gentle light, the warm rain, the heat that clings on into the late evenings like a bad smell, the warm, sticky nights. ... I say 'single out', but that's pretty much the whole season. Oh, I forgot to people with BO on public transport. And pollen. And sweating. And more sweating.

Here in South-East England, summer can keep raising its head like a B-Movie monster that refuses to die. ... We can have a few clear, crisp days and then suddenly a weather forecaster announces that 'summer's making a comeback' and it's hot and humid again with sticky sleepless nights.

I look forward to chilly nights and cold, clear mornings, the crunch of leaves beneath my feet and 'a touch of frost'. ... Not long to go now, hopefully.

Amen!

Dress rehearsal for hell... Brilliant. I really can't find a single thing I like about summer, except for maybe the fact that everyone's out of town on a vacation so it's relatively quiet but even that's no good because it's too hot to enjoy anything at all, really. It is an ugly season, the only one devoid of any beauty and distinction whatsoever, and I'm glad it's coming to an end.

Funny this place is one of the few that I go where we seem to agree summer sucks! LOL, I guess we're not a bunch of 20-something, tanned and beach going Twitter tweeters :)
Bring on the fall fellas. For many reasons - but of course, jackets. It's about the jackets...

Butte, you guys must still be parched over there ! I was reading someone's paleoclimatic conclusions for the Sierra Nevada range and he reckons that the last 100 years have been unnaturally wet. His conclusion was that the current conditions may actually be what the norm is.

We are to the point where we would consider leaving Cali but the kids/grandkids keep us here. My common sense (low levels, I know) says it might be a good time, but then again, places I'd like to go don't have lots of work. Guess we have to stick it out for a while longer. But really, we want to be near family.

@Otter: Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. This is really undesirable. For me anyway... Viva Fall!

Well, it's hot. Very hot. The jackets are in a pile in the closet. I don't even care if the moths gets them at this point.

Where I am in socal is not really all that hot. It hasn't even hit 100 yet this summer and I've had barely any humidity problems. However, it's still way too warm for leather jackets and that does make me sad:( I wish I could spend winter here in Cali and then go to Lilliehammer in summer where it's still in the 60s.

Just over a week ago (Wednesday 2nd September) I was in Bavaria when, fortunately, the summer seemed to "break" and a long spell of temperatures in the middle 30s (Celsius) came to an end, the temperature falling to a blissful 16C. While this summer in Britain has been rather cool and wet, central, eastern and southern parts of continental Europe have had a very hot summer with the threat of bad droughts; it's hoped that the high temperatures will not return this year.

Yep. I had to dig all my winter clothes out the closet how cold it got literally over night. 15C during the day, nights are around 8C. I don't mind, if nothing else, at least I can run with my dog again...

+2 degrees Celsius the other morning on the Swedish westcoast! The heavy jacket season is here!!!

Cheers Joakim

I wish... From June on here in the Geneva region +30 C to +40 C. Now when the fall is supposed to come +25 C. Sun keeps on shining, my lawn is dead, summer clothes still on. I like it when it's warm, but this is weird. And the pollen season restarting, ho hum.

The weather is turning in Sydney unfortunately. This week shows averages of 12C in the morning which is great but just a tease...tops of mid - high 20's (even 1 day of 28!) throughout the week.

Thats 53 mornings to 82 mid day for people living in the past lol

I was never particularly fond of the heat myself. I always found the cooler temperatures of Autumn, Winter, and early Spring to be my forte.
