Well, as some of you already know I’m a soda man. Never touch hard drinks (for religious purposes and it never really appealed to me) I try not to drink much of it seeing it isn’t the most healthiest thing on the planet to drink but once in a wile I enjoy a good soda.

Yes, I collect soda too! I have a few bottles of soda that I will photograph later and share. I will list some of the vintage artifacts that I own right now so you will get some sort of an idea of what I have collected.

1. Original 1940’s Orange Crush (dark brown bottle) still capped with original contents and MINT as the day it was made. Well, can’t say much for the soda inside. Hehehe.
2. 1946 original 7-up bottle still capped with original contents inside.
3. Late 40’s Nehi root beer bottle capped with contents.
4. 1948 original Royal Crown Cola bottle capped with original contents inside.

To start off, here is the newly acquired RC Cola bottle I bought. I really like this one!

In my great-grandfather's garage, there were around 40 or 50 bottles of vintage sodas of all kinds that lined the walls. When he died, they(and a bunch of his other, more valuable possessions) were stolen by a family member that thought they didn't get enough in the will and they sold or pawned off everything they stole. :cry:

Needless to say, that pretty much po'ed the rest of the family and no one really talks to them anymore. :rage:

Yes, some family members can do some dirty things. But, look at the bright side, they weren't thrown away as is the case some times from what I hear. Some one who has a great collection will then die and all his stuff is thrown out to the trash because no one wants it. But, I feel for your loss.

Yeah I know what you mean, sad, when my Great Grandfather died, my dads family stripped his WWI uniform of lapel insigna's, ribbons, metals, only thing they couldn't take off was shoulder patch, left him with what was left of uniform, I know the feeling :rage:

There is a factory in Dublin Texas that still makes Dr. Pepper with the original pure can sugar formula. It's delicious (yes you can tell the difference) and they come in a cool retro bottle. You can order it online too: http://www.dublindrpepper.com/

If you're ever driving along I-35 and pass through Waco, TX, stop at the DP museum. They sell the original formula there. Also in downtown Fort Worth, there's a shop that sells it as well, called Retro Cowboy on Houston St. Grab a soda there, and then go 5 blocks up and make a stop in Peters Bros. hats.

The original formula Dr. Pepper is excellent stuff, we have a couple of places down here in humidity central that carry it.

Now if there was still an old corner store, like there was when I was a kid, where they had big ice filled coolers of all the sodas from those days.

Root, did Royal Crown Cola become RC Cola in the US later on? I know that we had RC Cola here in Australia but was never sure if it was the US version. I have a couple of old Fanta bottles from the 40s and some cool local soft drink bottles from a company called 'Mexi'. My dad often talks about when he first tasted Coke in WW2. Heaps of GI's during were based here in Perth during the war and one gave him a bottle when he was 5.

Apart from the major soft drink companies here, Australia had loads of local independent factories. Almost every major city and large town had a local bottler of it's own brand of soft drink in all the flavours like cola, orange, lemon, lemonade, lime, creaming soda and rasberry. Was very cool actually and the company in my home town of Kalgoorlie (Mexi) was still distributing until the early 80s. Sad when they all died because of big companies like Coca Cola

If I'm not mistaken Royal Crown did change it's formula and become RC Cola, which has more or less completely died in popularity in the last 10 years. I remember that a corner store near the old movie theater my friend and used to frequent back in the day (cough 10 years ago cough) carried a cola, in bottles, called Royal Crown Darft, which I believe was supposed to be more old school formula, closer to that which it used to be. It was probably still made with high fructose corn syrup, but I distinctly remember that both he and I SWORE it tasted better than any other cola. It came in cool glass bottles too.

I remember that Royal Crown Draft! I never did try it though. :cry:

For the most part, I love Coca Cola! (Hate Pepsi!) But, I also like a brand called Cane Cola (Not sure I spelled that right) It's really cool because it also comes in a glass bottle with a vintage type of logo on it.

There are a few places here in CA that one can buy soda in glass bottles! In fact, Bubble Up you still can get and also NEHI.

RC Cola:
Yes, RC stands for Royal Crown. If you look on the bottle that I have it has RC printed on it just under the Royal Crown logo. I'm not a wear of any changes in the formula since the 40's (Often there are) but I still see it for sale. In the 80's I remember seeing it in all the Major super markets. Now, most find it at the 99 cense stores and such. I think you still can get it in the glass bottles at some of the stores that have the other rare brands.

When I saw that RC bottle I jumped for joy! I have wanted one for a wile because of the cool graphics on the label.

I need to post the 7-UP bottle soon! That one is real cool.

A soda collection? Now that's neat!

Well, let's see, as someone with a huge sweet tooth I am quite the connoisseur of soda! It doesn't help that I work for a soda fountain and get to mix up various concoctions throughout my shift. I’d have to say that I enjoy cherry vanilla cokes, and cherry chocolate cokes, myself.

There is a barbeque joint a few miles from where I live that sells old-fashioned bottled sodas. They also make their own root beer and red cream soda, and both are great.

Cost Plus World Market also sells vintage sodas--you can buy Boylan’s Sugar Cane Cola there, as well as a few. Good stuff--I think all sodas taste better when made with sugar cane as opposed to high fructose corn syrup.

Has anyone ever tried Peach Nehi? It’s delicious!

I agree with you on the sugar cane sodas! The corn syrup isn't better! Also, it helps to have it in a glass bottle!

On some hot days I remember going to my favorite antique shop. They had an old 7-UP machine from the 50's but, they stocked Coke in it with IBC root beer. I would go in on a hot day, give the guy .75c and then pop a dime into the machine. Open the door and pull out an ice cold coke in a glass bottle! Ahhhh, that was nice. I then would go over to the spot I knew that had a shelf full of 78's and I would just stand there looking through records and sip on my coke dressed in vintage. I remember a sweet old lady stopping and looking at me. Must have brought back a memory or three. She must have thought: That young man is dressed like my husband used to dress when He shopped for records. And he even has a coke in a glass bottle!

There I go reenacting history with out even trying!

Peach Nehi is great--crisp, sweet--like biting into a fresh peach. I can find out here, but only at Pop The Soda Shop. If you ever find one in your travels, snap it up!

When I work at the soda fountain all sorts of people ask to have their picture taken with me (often by vacationers who want to show their grandparents when they get home). It's almost like the place is a museum, and I am one of the displays!

Anyway, back to soda. Anyone ever tried a Green River soda?

It's a lime soda. There actually is a brand called the "Green River", but you can order a ‘generic’ Green River at any soda fountain. They are also called 'Lime Rickeys'—doesn’t that remind you of the song "Juke Box Saturday Night"?
