We are doing a home renovation project and have learned that many vendors, dealers, tradespeople don't call back, show up, etc. All I can conclude is that everyone's business is so successful that they don't need more business. We just tried to hire a company to help do some smoke damage cleanup.

One company I called was "very excited to win my business and said he'd come over when I was ready for an estimate." He went on to explain that his business was a family affair and that they only survived by reputation, "so please gives us a chance to win your business." When I called him back three days later to set up a day and time for him to come in, I left a message on his voice mail two days in a row and, now, a week later, still haven't heard back.

This goes on all the time. Appliance dealers who don't call back - we practically begged one to take our money. Window companies, tile companies, plumbers, electricians - we've had to chase down or have been ignored by all of these. To be fair, we've had some great experiences with companies that are reliable, seem to truly want your business and truly do a good job at a fair price, but we were stunned at how many seem not to care about getting business.
I will be glad to get back to jobs I can do myself, I never stand myself up!

Ah....the ever popular boxer-brief hybrid. I had no idea what you were talking about by retro-shorts.

No thanks. I prefer plain old boxers. I prefer 'em loose enough that worn elastic is a moot point. They're only under there in case I split my pants, there's something between my *** and the rest of the world.

Which brings me to something trivial, but really ticks me off. Now days there seems to be a trend toward stretchy knit waist bands of the tighty whitey variety stitched along the top edge of the shorts, as opposed to the good old fashioned industrial strength elastic band sewn INSIDE, where it belongs. I remember when I was young, my old man used to wear the kind that had little grippers or snaps in front, and could be unfastened like a pair of pants. Sometime in the early 80s, best I recollect, these began disappearing in favor of the elastic all the way around variety. More than once I can remember him bellyaching about this turn of events, and thinking to myself wtf difference does it make. Well, now I know. I stand corrected, Dad.

Today, I´ve done it, I´ve done it! :D

One hour ago, I was at my favorite, usual clothing-store, in the next bigger city, buying a further new pyjama and a shorty-pyjama and on looking around at the underwear, I further saw exactly these grey classic "fine rib"-cotton pants, which I kept in mind. And I grabbed the pack with my size and walked joyful to the checkstand. :D

Now, I´m already wearing and testing the nice classic "lovekillers". ;) And I tell you, all is fine!! :) Warmer, than accostumed, because of the 100% cotton, but definitely ok! The cotton-fine rib is very soft and cosy. That works!
But, what I like the most, on these classic-pants, are the longer legs. That can´t be negative, because you know, that on the new times-boxer briefs the legs are sometimes so very short and "upriding", with the synthetic microfibre. That can´t happen on the old-fashioned cotton-pants! :)
Look at my new "cuties": ;)

Washable on 95°C (with other white clothes), like your Grandma liked it very much! ;););)

But I learned from here, that "boxer-briefs" are the modern slim fit-pants of normally synthetic (breathable) microfibre, launchend in the 90´s, which we are calling "Retroshorts", here in Europe.

Did you name these old-fashioned cotton-pants, like above, boxer-briefs, too?
In Germany, the old version is normally just named "(fine- or doublerib)-underpants", in difference to the basic, legless "slips".

But the main difference is, that the boxerbriefs/retroshorts are "slim-fit" and the 100% cotton-classics "regular-fit".

But actually, the classic feels very good. Unusual warm, but ok. I can recommend!

PS: But yes, curiously, the above shown looks like a modern boxerbrief/retroshort, at first sight. But it´s definitely the regular-fitted classic "lovekiller"-pant. Just not in white. ;)

First bigger walkaround and yes, feels good, nothing bad. The regular-fit feels not that unusal, like I thought. All is fine and cosy.

Now I know, why fine rib-cotton(and double-rib) is still alive!
Life´s good. :D

Now, we will see, how it tolerates some 40°C-washes. ;)
 
In the US, we would call those "boxer-briefs", which refers to the style, not the material or the fit. It's a hybrid between the tight fit of briefs and the longer length of boxers. It doesn't matter if they're made of edible seaweed, the style is "boxer-brief".

I'm not sure what a "lovekiller" is, why it would be called such, or what would make them "not fine". I'm not sure I want to know.

I got taken at this morning's staff meeting by the announcement that our executive director was being replaced by a local business personality I find highly distasteful, on the ground that "the board feels a man would be better suited for the job." I was already on my feet calling for a wildcat strike before I realized what day it was.

My day was nearly normal. I had to bring an important letter to our post-office at bicycle-shop and of course, they can not joke with their customers.

Before bring the letter to post, I had to scan and print out and at first, my otherwise absolutely reliable laser-printer didn't react by pressing the power-switch. o_Oo_Oo_O
I thought: "What, what WHAAAT? After the notebooks power-adapter, you are killed, too??"

Moments later, I checked some of the other electricity-sockets of the 9-socket-bar and WOOHOO, at the fourth socket, the printer reacts normal! He's alive!! :)

So, I checked again and again and it seems, that the first three sockets at the bar are damaged/dead :confused: and the next six sockets are working correct, because the classic desk-light, the extern speakers, the old extern LCD-monitor, the old desktop, the notebook and the laserprinter are now alive.

So, days ago, the old notebook power-adapter died and killed further three of the sockets?? o_O

So I am sitting here perusing sewing patterns online, which I consider one of the great advances of technology (no more need to sit in Joann Fabrics for an hour hunting through pattern books). However, I am highly annoyed that so many of the patterns are mocked up on models that: 1) the outfit does not appropriately fit the model it is on and 2) is in the wrong type of fabric for the cut (heavy jacket weight brocade on a dress for instance, obviously not backed or stabilized).

None of this is rocket science, and these are the pattern companies... they should at least be able to find decent seamstresses and then fit the garment to their model...

Fabrics are such an interesing thing and the history around it. :) But, I learned some things early enough.

A really important thing. About avoiding bad sleep!:

In the late 90's or early 2000's, there came up bedsheets, made of typical synthetic microfibre, for example such blueish or other more "fresh" colours. And my parents aren't such distrusting people, like myself and just buy new upcoming things.

So, relatively fast, I felt, that something is really wrong with this bedsheets. And I comprehended, that my "angry" restless legs are electrical-charged by these felt-like bedsheets. And further, at this time, I didn't know about different bedclothes like the great Seersucker-fabric. So I normally slept in classic Jersey-bedclothes, which are often too warm and sweaty for many people. And that made the microfibre-bedsheets more than ever bad!
First, you got an more or less restless sleep, because of too sweaty bedclothes and you are permanently moving around and second, your (manly hairy) legs get charged after only some minutes. :confused:
So, I said to my parents, not to buy these bedsheets again!! And since this time, all was fine, with the good old thin cotton-bedsheets, again. :)

And some years later, I came on the great Seersucker-fabric for summer-bedclothes and I recognized, that this great "knobs"-stuff is really avoiding any sweatyness. It works!
So, you have already deactivated two simple reasons for bad sleep! :)

And further, as a normal man with hairy legs, it's very recommendable to wear the long (what you call) pyjama, as long as temperatures allows! With the classic thin cotton-bedsheets, there is not the problem with the really charged legs, but anyway, my hairy legs would disturb my good sleep, naturally. So, go secure and wear the long pyjama! :)

And on pyjamas:
Make sure, that yours is comfortable, well fitted and NOT SLIPPING OUT OF PLACE, what can really kill your good sleep! Unconvinient cuffs and so on!

I think, this topic is immensely important! I've learned my lessons.

And be sure, to sleep alone and peaceful, without any snoring person or so. ;)
