Sizing of Pike Brothers Jackets....

I finally pulled the trigger on a Pike Bros. B-10. I emailed em and asked them, based upon my measurements, what size I should git... they said XL. I personally haven't worn an XL in a coon's age but they said so... So I'm on here asking because I'm a bit nervous, anyone out there got a B-10 or N-1 Pike Bros jacket? Do they run large, small or TTS?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've always loved those Pike Brothers B-10 jackets and it will certainly come in handy in our neck of the woods. Looking forward to hearing your opinion and seeing the fit pics.

I tried one on a few years ago when I was XL and went down to L for a good fit. I didn't buy (when they were starting out and cheap), partly because I was checking out the competition. Buy the time I'd decided, I was out of £££. Damn.

Really well made, great fit.

Back the. I remember a weird comment, verging on criticism - from here I think - about their B-10 being 'over-engineered' or some such. I should have thought that was a good thing...

Anyway, enjoy your new jacket!

That was Ken Caulder's verdict. For a while, Aero sold them alongside their own B10. There was little difference in price. Aero basically sold their own as slightly more historically accurate, whereas the Pike Brothers ones were designed to be much harder-wearing than the originals - I think that's what Ken meant by "over-engineered". Personally, I'd not see over-engineering as a bad thing myself either, but there you go. Shortly after that, Aero stopped making their own B10s - obviously don't feel it's worth it (probably easier to just stock the Pikes if there isn't as much demand for the B10). I wish Pike would produce a B15 spec version of this jacket. Surely it wouldn't need much variation on the pattern - mostly just pocket differences? I'd definitely spring for one of those.

I bought a medium size Pike Bros N1 Deck jacket when I was up at Aero. At 5'11" I usually take a large in most jackets but the large N1 swamped me - big across the shoulders, chest and very long arms. Having said that, the medium is quite snug fitting so no layering possible. They should do a medium/large, then it would be perfect :)

I bought a Pike Brothers Navy (navy colored too) front zip deck jacket, a few months ago. I emailed them about which size I should get and also looked at the measurement provided. I chose the best size for me from the information provided. The fit of the jacket through the shoulders and torso was absolutely perfect, but the sleeve length was an issue, to be certain. It seems as though they did not factor in the knit cuffs at the end of the sleeves into the overall sleeve length. If the jacket were designed without knits on the sleeves, the length of the sleeves would have been perfect. By the way, I wear a regular or short length suit jacket. I'm right on the border when it comes to that.

At any rate, I went to the tailor and he corrected the problem. He had to remove 2 1/2 inches from each sleeve. He also reduced the diameter of the sleeves openings prior to reattaching the knit cuffs. The tailor did a beautifully seamless job.

Overall, I love the jacket. It's a jacket that looks good when laying on a tabletop and even better when being worn. It is also very well made. I'm looking forward to being able to wear it this fall and winter.

I also have a PB blue Navy zip-front deck jacket; Looking at their size chart I fell between a L and an XL. I went with the XL since I wanted room for layering (still have nightmares about our last winter deep-freeze event!) and I have long arms (absolutely abhor sleeves that are too short). It's a bit roomy but perfect for a fleece or hoodie underneath and heavier weight clothes in general. The inside pocket is a nice touch! Great quality!!!
I think you'll be happy with your PB jacket Worf. Enjoy!

Worfy, send Scott a PM. He bought one last year and is roughly a 48 from memory? I'm curious about this also....

Dave - I got a Pike Bros. N-1 Deck Jacket. Their new(est) model. I got an XL, and it's in no way your size. It's barely my size. I can't wear anything much under it. Now, it's a different jacket, so I don't know how that translates, but I wanted to give you that info in hopes that it helps.
Great jacket for sure. Just not as large as I'd hoped.

Is it true ( I read this somewhere) that the N1 was not inssued to individuals, but belonged to the ship, to be worn by whomever needed to throw one on to step outside on deck for a while, during shift? That could explain a generous fit, especially if it was allowing not only for as many wearers as possible, but to fit over bulky sweaters and the like, given cold Winter weather on the high seas?

Yes it's true. Still that way now with modern Navy deck jackets (both the windproof/flame-resistant version and the Mustang-brand floatation style jackets). The ship's name is often stenciled across the back.

Thanks for the love Bro. ALWAYS good to see you... even though I'd have to say that you (more'n anybody else) got me hooked on the jacket habit!:eeek: Welp they just sent me an email saying the order is "complete". I assume that means it shipped. You'll all find out the dealio when I find out I suppose.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Worf. Hopefully, it will be just fine.

It seems like everyone to a man says that the jackets are very well made. Let's hope that it fits in all the right places.

Ah, thanks. So any of these that have fellen into private hands, somebody might have been a bit naughtier than just 'forgetting' to return an issued jacket? ;)
