Three tall square crowned bowlers, each with drastically different dimensions. The brown has the shortest brim and tallest crown. The middle has a deep sweeping curve to the brim and a more rounded crown. The last has a slightly tapered crown and very short d'orsay curl.

Exceptional vtg Bowlers much less tall crowned bowlers. Colors are very different. From what I have read on the forum in the bowler thread felt colors other than black were a smaller percentage of the whole sold. Who are the manufacturers?

Thanks for sharing. Eric -

Thanks for this series Eric. Very fun to look at both of these beauties in comparison. Are they about the same age? Competitors for a man's selection at a well stocked hattery, hard to choose!

you're killin' me Eric
my two favorite models in my absolute favorite colorway ever.
there is a damn good chance that I would trade 3/4 of my collection for only these two pieces if they were my size.
absolute eye candy for me ... cavities ... ouch !!!

Great, Eric... a nice reprise of the comparison I posted to launch this thread five years ago.

Thanks sir. Your Introduction, the gorgeous hats featured in your original post, is only followed by my Exposition. I do believe that many others will continue with a Development perhaps in the future followed by a Coda. (I am exhausting my knowledge of reprise or the sonata form.)

Please others post up your Side By Side Comparisons. Love this thread.

Inspired by Eric - and of course, Alan - these two gentlemen always inspire me. And in the interest of Development, I want to feature an OPS Dobbs Cross-Country, Mid- 50s Stetson Playboy, and cap it off with a late 40s, early 50s Dalton. All unlined. The Dalton started off it's life with a felt thin ribbon, but I recently changed that out to a mid-ribbon, giving it a more Playboy-ish look. The Stetson and Dalton feature brim edge stitching, as well.

wow !!!
very well done Jim
all are just gorgeous
very nicely laid out
completely enjoyable to peruse

Nice collection.

Great post... thanks for sharing. I had a Dobbs Hankachif felt at one time. A whisper of a hat.

Thank you gentlemen. They are three of my nicest hats. And yes, Alan, the Hankachif felt is amazing.

Had some fun doing an Open Road side by side comparison

after looking at them closely all together I was pretty surprised to find that unlike my Stratoliners these Open Roads are very consistent from one to the next

all the felt is pretty close... all very dense
The Twenty Five is slightly more stiff ... just slightly
And the green one ... which is the oldest is not surprisingly the softest.

The crowns and brims are very consistent throughout
All brim at right around 2 7/8
All crowns right around 5 3/4
the crown of the Twenty Five being ever so slightly taller.
Where the brim on the green OR is just a hair shorter than the rest

The brim binding is identical

The bows are pretty consistent

The sweat band on the grey OR is probably the least desirable... but still quite comfortable

These hats range from the very early 50s with the green hat... to the late 50s with the grey hat.

I'm impressed with the consistency and quality of every piece you see here

I'm late to this party. Wow Jim! This is a great study. I'm in the queue with Mike Miller on a Playboy-ish clone, and these images are perfect timing.

Thanks for sharing Anthony. Your Open Roads and boxes are dynamite. I appreciate being able to see the colors of OR models just a few years apart. They are truly sharp lids.

Wear them with pride, Eric -

That's a great collection and study, Ant! Super comparison.

The color comparison is great as well.
