I need recommendations for patterns of suits with shirts from the 40ies and 50'ies - like the Dior New Look, both with fitted waists but either with pencil skirts or full skirts. Which ones have you made that looked amazing? I am envisioning an iceblue suit in a fabric that has some sheen to it, with a big diamant?© brooch on the collar.. le sigh..

I am finally starting to lose some of the weight I have put on over the past 3 years at my new desk job, and at the rate I am going i should be there by the end of the summer and then i am going to get cracking to have it made by winter.I can't put that much work into something that won't fit by the next year.

This is the pattern I made all my slacks from. Word of thought; you might want to make up a mock up going by the finished garment measurements (generally written on the pattern piece) and apply that to your size instead of the person measurements because I went by person, and they were way tooooo big. Plus the crotch is too high (especially if your plus size) so cut about an inch or two out

Ah thanks for the info, I was going to make them button front type thingy like yours which gives me some hope!! I got a pair of Jeans that button like that today & was going to attempt that fatening! I'm a bit of a funny shape anyway so I'll need to do a mock up anyway!! Why is nothing simple?????????

Joann's is having more pattern sales this month too, so check your flyers! I left mine at home, so I can't remember the dates, but Vogue will be $3.99 again.

Ooh, there are a ton of those in the patterns section of ebay. The fitted skirts seem a little more common, but they're not rare. Just look around! I think it'll be a lot harder finding the material, actually.

Lauren, I really like the McCalls 8426. Earlier 30s McCalls patterns are great - they have such nice graphics.

I just got a McCalls dress already cut out and ready to go from about the same time. Not sure how old the material is as it is a plain colour but looks like it could be from the 30s. Now I have to get off my backside and make it..... The pattern is small but the style is such that I might be able to get away with it as it is a very full bodice. Just have to hold my breath with the hips!

Miss Sis, I love the graphics on the Mccall patterns as well... if fact that's most of what I keep my eye out for And the illustrations in the magazines are to die for as well! I'm excited to see your dress when you make it! I bet it's going to be cute- but we all know how you have impeccable style!

I'm so excited! I just picked up these two vintage patterns at a vintage fair for 50 pence each!!!

Now I just need to figure out what types of fabrics to use and how to sew them by hand.

My most recent 40's acquisitions...

Its got a fitted jacket, big shirt, jumper and pant pattern all in one! AND in my size!!

Plus this number I couldnt pass up in my size too!

Love that negligee pattern , LD..I am such a sucker for nightie patterns..seriously, it's an addiction. We are having a sewing party at my church next weekend, and i have a 50's nightie pattern with matching bedjacket, that i'll be working on..really how many nightgowns can a girl really use??
