Speaking of bad homes. I got lucky today, I was all set to buy a little Shotgun house on some nice land. I went for one last inspection, and ran into the neighbour. She informed me as to where the property lines were. There is no where to expand to, the lot is to narrow. Man, that could have been a costly mistake! To bad, nice area, and nice people, but a 500 square foot house, no thanks.

I added a "new" piece of furniture to my old house today. This large hutch was my Mother's, and was a part of the Drexel dining room suit my parents bought in 1952 (they saved the receipt for the suit, and I still have it). My Mother passed away in 1996 and my Dad in 2008. When we closed my Dad's house, I gave the hutch to my son. He used it until today when he gave it back to me (he and his wife got some new furniture and didn't have room for it any more). The suit came with the hutch, a drop-leaf table, and four side chairs. I have all the pieces except for two chairs that broke a number of years ago.

The table in this picture was my great-grandmothers, and dates to the 1880's. You can see the two chairs that go with my Mother's suit, and the other chairs were my grandmother's and date to around 1905.

Hi Big Man, the dining room looks nice. It's always good news when family pieces stay in the family; things our people worked hard for and were proud of owning and passing down.

Thank you. Everything in that room (and the house, for that matter) has a story. With very, very few exceptions, all the furniture, china, silver, etc. are "family" pieces, with some going back as far as seven generations ago. I like things that "connect" the family over time.
