Show us your vintage home!

Here is our vintage home. My wife was born and raised here and we purchased it from her parents when we married in 2018. From what I've been able to pinpoint, the house was built between 1890 and 1909. The house retains most of its original features (woodwork, hardwood floors, leaded glass, etc.)

My in-laws bought the house when they were married, in 1984. They put an addition on, which extended the kitchen and allowed the expansion of the downstairs bath and a first floor laundry. The upstairs was also re-configured, making one of the bedrooms smaller, and making room for an additional bathroom.

Between the other things in life, I've been working on renovations and restorations. Most recently, I pulled up the wall-to-wall carpeting in the living room, exposing the hardwood floors.

The big project, which I just wrapped up, was the front porch. I found an Amish gentleman to remake the bottoms of the original columns, so I could use them over. My father-in-law and I replaced one joist with a new one, as it was totally shot, and sistered the remaining good joists with new lumber for good measure. I then re-did all the decking with Doug Fir tongue and groove, similar to what would have been there originally.

This house has been a passion project for me. I love that my wife and I are raising our family where she was raised and I'm a sucker for all the charm this house has to offer. There's plenty of room for our family to grow. There's 4 bedrooms upstairs and the old "servant's quarters" on the main level that we currently use as an office. In our home's lifetime, it's been owned by 4 families. We hope one day one of our children will purchase it from us.
Fantastic job! You've done some excellent work on that porch and the whole place looks great. Congrats on the little helper, too.
